MacSchool no longer was meeting the needs of the district, said Kirk Wright, superintendent. We have converted our computers to the PowerSchool program. Wright said that quite a few districts have also made the change which makes the system more compatible with the state office of education. District personnel are now being trained in the new program, said Wright. While it has been the usual struggle to learn the new program, when personnel master the system they are appreciative of its versatility. It is easier for teachers to put information into the program once they are trained, he said. In addition, he said, there is a great deal of state support for the program. By Myrna Trauntvein Correspondent The Utah State Board of Education supports Performance Plus but superintendents and district boards of education have some concerns. Superintendent of Juab School District, Kirk Wright, said at a scheduled meeting with Utah State Office of Education personnel on Aug. 9, federal No Child Left Behind Act and the states latest version of its Performance Plus plan. For that reason, the Utah State Board of Education delayed discussion on the latest version of its Performance Plus plan for competency-measureeducation in order to get more feedback from local school district superin- By Myrna WiNon might then do, would not need to carve up a newly paved road in order to add Trauntvein Correspondent s a zone utilities. thie ' The answer could be given sooner than later," said McKnight. If the decision is made to allow the change next year, then it would require construction to dig up a brand n w road. Steve and John Ludlow and Yard White, property owners of the proposed Walnut Grove Subdivision, requested the zone change in their subdivision to allow two building lots to have narrower frontage than called for in the original change request was authorized and part was tabled as the city council of Nephi considered the request. A public hearing was held, on Aug. 3, to consider a request submitted by owners of property at approximately 300 South and 500 East and at approximately 400 South and 500 East. The change from l to would allow a smaller lot size and property frontage, said Randy McKnight, city R-- R-1- zone. Wilson, property owner to the east of Walnut Grove, was also seeking a zone change. It was Wilsons request to w hich Coombs was objecting and which was, as a result, tabled. Coombs said he had In the frontage needs he said. But in to be l 8, the frontage is reduced The l zone also to acre per requires building lot while the requires just 8,000-feet- . Three people attended the earlier public hearing and one of those, Scott Coombs, addressed the council again at council meeting on Tuesday where the zoning change requests were considered. I am assuming the smaller houses will be built on the smaller lots, said Coombs. Small houses will affect my property value. He said, once a more than $200,000 home, like his, was surrounded by small homes, the owner, if he wanted to sell, could no longer expect anyone would want the larger more expensive home at the desired price. Mayor Chad Brough, however, said that expectation might not be correct since expensive homes could be built on smaller lots, like those which may be proposed by property owner Jane WilR-- l, R-- R-- one-quart- problem allowing the of the LudlowAYhite property which would allow two smaller lots. Those were not adjacent to his property. One of the reasons Coombs bought his property in the first place was that, in spite conof the homes dition at the time, the house was a good investment because of its potential and because of the lot sizes in the area which would maintain property values. More expensive homes are usually built on larger lots, said Coombs. McKnight said, now that the hearing has been held, the council could legally consider the requests and could all or part of the area or could leave it all unchanged. The last of those adjustments involved the two building lots which, in order to remain in the latest plan of the subdivision, needed to be adjusted to the smaller size. Wilson wanted to be included in the plan because her property, located between Walnut Grove Subdivision on the south and Scott Coombs, was contiguous to subdivision property to the east and south.
