Show Page tDe Wednesday, April 30, 2003 5 sFuneral services for Jack ijPace to be held May 2nd :in Pleasant Grove Jack Sperry Pace passed jjaway April 26 2003. He was born Jan. 4, 1919 in Park ;City, Utah, to Josie Alean , ; I Sperry and Archibald Clar-- ; ence Pace. He married Afton Gibson June 10 1940. Their marriage was later solem-- ! nized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. His parents were critically sick in the 1919 flu epidemic, Jack was raised by his mother, two aunts, two uncles .and the Sperry grandparents in Nephi, Utah. His parents were later divorced. He graduated from Juab High School where he was Student Body President, a member of the track and basketball teams. He also played the saxophone in the school band. Jack was a 2nd Lieutenant in the ROTC while attending USU. In 1941 he graduated .from Utah State University in the morning and reported to Fort Douglas that afternoon to be sworn into the Army. iJack was stationed at Camp iHaan, and was on maneuvers with guns in Los Angeles just prior to the attack in on Pearl Harbor. He served 5 years during WWII. In 1949 he was Captain of the Pleasant Grove Service Battery Field Artillery Battalion in the Utah National Guard which was immediately called to Active Duty during the Korean conflict. He served 2 years during the Korean War. One of those years Jack and his family were stationed in . Texas and served one year in Korea. Jack had 27 years of service and retired t military as a Colonel. In 1942 his father-in-laAbe Gibson bought the Pleasant Grove Review. Jack was very active in the LDS Church where he held many positions including Elders Quorum President, MIA President and Ward Clerk which he held through six bishops. He is survived by his wife Afton; children, Nancy Gayle Pace of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Jack Wayne Pace of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Sally Jo Lyon of Pleasant Grove; 11 grandchildren; and 17 He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Kent Gibson Pace. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 2, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove Ninth Ward Chapel, 455 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Thursday evening from p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services.
