Sharp-taile- d grouse dont hold as tight as some upland game birds do, Mitchell said. Sharp-tail- s are more of a nervous bird and if you walk into the general vicinity where they are, theyll probably flush. Mitchell reminds hunters that Because of mild conditions this the land within the hunt area is past winter, eastern Box Elder almost exclusively private. Applicants who need to purchase a Habitat Authorization or combination license prior to Sept. 14 so they can go fishing, for example should buy them before applying in the draw, Obtaining permission to access private property didn't seem to be a problem for sharp-taile- d grouse hunters last year, Mitchell said. Moroni Feed Company ing HPS or rodent clean up guidelines, please call or visit your local or state health department or visit the CDC web site serious problem for summer drivers When you are getting ready for a road trip do you plan a long rest the night before you leave or do you stay up late taking care of all the details? If you are like most people, you skip sleep to pack the bags and load the car. Or, when tired you keep driving on a vacation rather than take the time to pull over and rest. These are reasons AAA Utah wants to remind you that driver fatigue is a very real problem for summer travelers. A recent survey of more than 1.000 Americans by the Nation- al Sleep Foundation found 57 percent of the people had driven while drowsy in the past year and 23 percent had fallen asleep at the wheel. Experts find weary motorists who drift ofT the road and crash cause about 40.000 injuries and 1,550 deaths nationally each year. "It is important to make safety an important part of every h road trip, said Rolayne AAA Utah spokesperson. A record number of people are traveling this summer. Drivers need to be sharp and alert because roads will be full of travelers and construction makes drivFair-doug- Res-taura- nt Christiansen Paint & Glass Dr. Bruce Larsen Bank of Ephraim Beck's Home Furnishing Olsen Ag ; Baird Livestock Christensen farm Dean Hansen ing even more challenging. Symptoms of fatigue include involuntary eye closures, yawning, feeling tired, inability to stay in lane, inattention and being disengaged from the environment. These symptoms mean you are tired, no matter what time of day it is. Drivers who feel drowsy should take the feeling seriously. Sleep can strike without warning. It only takes a second to shut your eyes, leave your lane and cause a crash. It is typical for drowsy drivers not to even realize they are falling asleep. Many drivers think they can keep themselves awake by rolling down the window, listening to the radio, or eating a snack. These techniques simply dont work. What does work is getting adequate rest the night before driving and a combination of sleep, exercise and caffeine. Sleep. If you show signs of sleepiness, pull over to a safe area and take a nap (even 20 minutes will help). Exercise. When you wake up, get some exercise. It helps you become alert more quickly. Running and walking will help. Caffeine. Consume some caffeine for an extra boost. This combination allows a few mors hours of driving. Also, time is an important factor. Drive at times when you would normally be awake. There are two times during the day when your body is most prone to failing asleep at night between midnight and 6 a.m., and in the afternoon after lunch. wide-awa- ke Subccribo Today! |
