South First Baptist Church Continuing the theme of the witnesses in John chapter "7, Jesus spoke to the Pharisees of two more witnesses who testified concerning Him: God the Father and the Scriptures. The Father testified of Jesus on the day of His baptism when the heavens parted, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in the form of a dove, and God said, This is My beloved Son. in whom I am well John the Mat. 3:13-1pleased. Baptist was witness to this but the faithless Pharisees neither heard the voice nor saw the form as is the case today with all who do not have faith in Jesus. Even the testimony of Scripture left them unenlightened because the Word was not alive and active in their hearts and minds. The veil of unbelief that Jesus came to remove from so many then and now covered their eyes and prohibited them from accepting the truth concerning Jesus the Messiah. Only Christ can remove this veil and only then if we will put our faith in Him. Without faith, nobody will believe the testimony of God and the Scriptures no matter how studied they are. There will be no change in their lives unless they put their faith in Jesus. They will not hear nor understand the true nature of God's grace and their great need for Christ and Christ alone for their salvation. For one to know great amounts of Bible, to memorize many verses, to be able to expound on deep doctrines, and to possess a - 7. 72-ho- lot of practical wisdom is all very good, but none guarantee salvation. The sad but true fact is that many folks know a great deal about religion, but they never come to a saving faith. This should sene as a venous warning to all people, those who know not Chnst and those that think they are Christians. The assumption must not be made that one is saved just because they know some doctrine and study the Bible. If all one has is a lot of knowledge about Christianity with no personal relationship with Christ, then they are deceiv mg themselves just like the Pharisees in our text. Is your religion just the accumulation of know ledge or does it consist of a personal relationship w ith Jesus Christ based on all of your faith being placed in Him and His work? If you do not have this kind of intimate relationship with Jesus that is grow ing daily, the good news m that you can. The Bible says that if you will set all human works aside, if you will not put your faith in anything man can do but totally trust in Jesus and what He has done, you will be saved. You will enter into the personal relationship the Bible speaks of. There are a lot of people that know about Jesus, but few that actually know Him personally. Please take a few moments and reflect on your relationship with Jesus. If you dont know Him or dont think you know Him as the Bible says you should, please call. I would count it a privilege to take the Bible and show you how you can be saved and come to know the Lord m a personal w ay.
