There are many things they do not yet understand. It is easier for children to do something wrong because they got confused. A child may drop a watch in the toilet because yesterday she put something in a box and you told her how wonderful she was. Your anger when, not only is the watch ruined but it clogged the toilet and the water backed up into the living room and two of the bedrooms, may be confusing to her. An older child may be late for dinner because he was confused about what time it was going to be on this certain night. One way to keep children from getting confused is to be consistent with routines. This means trying to do the same things at about the same time each day. When children know what to expect at what time of the day, they do a better job of what their par- - New baby Daughter born February 8, 1996, to Darin and JoEllen Peterson. Is she expected to go to bed at the same time each evening? No family can have total regularity. Things happen sometimes that make you change your familys schedule. You might have company or a special event one night. If, however, you try to make your childs days regular and predictable, you will have fewer behavior problems. The best consistency you can give your child is yourself. Let the child know you will have time to do things with him. Let him know you will be there when he has a problem or needs you. Spend some time each day with your child. This is the best way to help your child to learn, to grow, and to know that you are a constant in his life. Here are some things you can do with your child. Some of these ideas are good for babies and some for older children. Read to your child. Ask your child to read to you. Look at a picture book together and talk about the pictures. Take a walk with your child and talk about what you see. Tell your child a story about when you were little. Sing to, or with, your child. Thomas Ord, age 83, dies in Redlands California Thomas Merle Ord, age 83, passed away February 17, 1996, at his home in Redlands, California. He was born in Nephi. He lived in Redlands, California, for 48 years. He worked for California-Portlan- d Cement as an electrician for 23 years. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Ord; a son, Russell Ord of Idaho Falls, Idaho; daughters, Jeraldine McMorris of Vista, California, and Dorothy Robinson of Scottsdale, Arizona; and sisters, Nelda Haney of Nephi, and Ruth Beck of Nyssa, Oregon.
