The clean-u- p effort came as a natural result of the science segment of the curriculum for the third grade at the school. The community could help us with our project, said Winn. If community residents are inter- ested in assisting with the project, she said, they could contact the school or could send the cans to school with a third-grad- e student. Ifthere are a lot of cans, a teacher would be willing to pick them up. One boy brought in 17 bags of cans said Winn. They took the first truck-loa- d to Swensons Metal in Spanish Fork, said Winn. The price fluctuates, said Winn. The price is not the important thing. The effort made to recycle and to cleanup is what is important The money collected could be used to purchase something for the school. The students will decide. The cans are being stored in Winns garage, she said, until there is enough to take to the recycling center. Colette Olpin, Jennifer Bailey, and Dezri Bowers met at her home one Saturday morning and traveled along the city airport road. They collected bags of cans. A lot of them were beer cans. She wasnt certain what significance there was in that fact, said Winn. The important thing is Die students are learning about the environment and that they can make a significant contribution to cleaning up and recycling. We thought it would be a good science project, and it is, said Winn.
