Show Residents of CUP counties say that water conservation is desirable and necessary Most residents of the 12 counties comprising the Central Utah Water Conservancy District feel strongly that water conservation is desirable and necessary. While few see the possibility of a water shortage in the near future, most feel there will be a shortage in the next 20 years. Those are some of the results of a survey conducted by Dan Jones & Associates. The survey was commissioned by the Central Utah Water Conservancy District, Water Management Improvements Stud- When asked the first thing that comes to mind when considering water conservation, more than half (51) say use sparinglydont waste. Another quarter (26) say damscollecting water. When given several reasons why water conservation should be accomplished, most of those surveyed selected the statement, Water conservation if the RIGHT thing to do. Two in five residents (40). say that they have been asked to conserve water by their water company. Nearly half (48) believe that residents in their - ies. The survey involved 604 respondents who reside within the 12 county area covered by the Central Utah Project. The interviews were conducted between August 9 and 14, 1993. The results are subject to a 4 percent error factor. Here are some of the major findings of the survey: Recent heavy precipitation conhas alleviated short-tercerns over water shortage, but long-terconcerns remain. Water conservation is seen as a necessary and desirable action by a vast majority. Citizens are most willing to adopt easy conservation measures (i.e. full loads of dishes for conservation information from their water company. Of those surveyed, 99 (82 strongly, 17 somewhat) said they favored water companies educating their customers about wise use of water.
