Serving East Juab County.- - A Nice Place To Live! September 30, 1992 Group prepares for coming of Central Utah Project water A compromise bill has passed both houses of Congress which should make it possible for the Central Utah Water project to deliver water to the residents of Juab County within a few years. The bill is now in conference committee, but Juab County will be ready for the water. Of the 53 titles in the bill, says Randy Greenhalgh, chairman of the East Juab Water Conservancy District, only 13 have not been agreed upon by the house and senate. Both bodies have to agree on the language for each of the 53 titles. Senator Gam has said the bill will be passed this year if he has to hold Congress hostage through said New Years Eve, Greenhalgh. Greenhalgh says some preliminary work is already underway in Juab County. We feel like we have jump started just a little bit, said Greenhalgh. We will have a lot of information and even if we didnt get the bill we would be able to better manage our water resources with the information we are putting together. When the bill passes, water for irrigated lands within southern Utah County and eastern Juab Counties will be delivered during the irrigation season, and municipal and industrial water will be available year around by direct delivery or through exchange with agricultural water supplies. The main conveyance system still must be built. The main system will follow the base of the mountains east of Interstate 15 between Santaquin and Nephi. The irrigation and drainage system is one of several components of the CUP completion program. Supplemental water will be delivered, via the system, to approximately 176,000 acres of irrigated agricultural land in the southern portion ofUtah County, the eastern portion of Juab County, and the Sevier River Basin.
