Show UHP nets over $500,000 in drugs in two stops last week ff.XfsS WSOCIftTION 4l?nsrH The Utah Highway Patrol seized over a half a million dollars in marijuana and pwiitw last week on Interstate 15 near 84111 Nephi. UHP Sgt. Paul Mangelson stopped a car Tuesday on charges of following too close. Another car, which had been traveling with the first car, also was stopped. Mangelson received permission to search the cars and found 163 pounds of marijuana in one of the trunks and about a quarter ounce of cocaine in the car itself. Hie marijuana was valued at approximately $260,800 and the cocaine at about $500. Gabriel Robles Lopez, 32, Jose R. Teren, 31, Jose Martinez, 31, Jeffrey Joseph Gloriosos, 22, and Steven James Gregory, 34, all of Tucson, Ariz., were arrested and charged with intent to distribute marijuana, a second degree felony. They were booked into the Juab County Jail and their bail was set at $20,000 each. $304,000 in marijuana were found in the back of this car, driven by a Mexican national Tuesday Mexico on speeding and other charges. Acting manager Bob Hansen and controller Blair Painter told the commission that in spite of a few recent layoffs, the plant has done more business this year than any other time in recent memory. In one recent month, the plant had $1.3 million in sales, said Painter. The early winter months traditionally have been slow for the plant, but not this year.
