Show '' J I: A Home Paper For Home People :: :: i: DRUGGIST FIGURES IN JAIL BREAK SCHOOL OPENED MONDAY, 10TH Registration Exceeds That of Year Ago Teachers .Institute Held Last Saturday FINANCIAL REPORT OF Henry Gries, the genial dispenser of prescriptions, at the Nephi Drug Co., who is now on his vacation at his old home in Wabash, Indiana, had a very unusual experience a few days ago according to a news item in the Wabash Times that' is it was most unusual for Henry. It appears from that story that Sheriff Sumnierland had left early in the morning, with a prisioner by the name of Marlin Shuey for the State Prison at ludianapolis. Chief of Police Bolte, who is a brother-in-laof Mr. Gries, also left at the same time accompanied by Henry, having in charge a deserter by the name of Windbigler. The officers .amd Henry, had planned to spend the night in Indianapolis and attend the State Fair the next day. When they arrived in Indianapolis, Sheriff Sumnierland received a telephone call from his wife that from the actions of the prisioners at the jail it looked like an attempt would be made to effect a After a consultation Sheriff and Chief of Police Bolte, started back at once for Wabash, but before leaving they swore in Henry as a deputy sheriff, to take the prisioner Shuey on to the State Prison Farm We cannot imagine the genial Henry in the role of sheriff, but there was nothing further said in the news item concerning the prisioner Shuey, so Henry must have landed him safe at the penal farm. The school of this district opened auspiciously last Aouday morning with a splendid registration and an excellent teaching corps. Supt. Ste wart, who has the repuatation of being especially endowed with the faculty of picking good teachers, is more than grauned with conditions surrounding the opening of schools this year, and the personnel of his assistants. While absolute figures on registration are hard to arrive at this week the total will be somewhere near 1250 which will prpbably reach 1350 when completed. A decided gain over last year throughout the district. At Nephi the High School has registered 230 students, and this, according to Principal Sperry, will reach 275 or more by the time the fall work is advanced enough to permit all the boys and girls to register. This year the 7th and 8th grades are established in the north wing of the first floor of the new high school building, and this may be said to constitute the junior high school. It Is most gratifying to see the pride the youngsters take in their new surroundings. This pride in the new building spreads to the high school students, and that spirit is commend Board of Education able.
