The designation would allow the state to offer incentives to businesses which locate in the area. Utah is one of 19 states which does not use the Enterprise three areas, says Glenn Greenhalgh, area economic development director. Incentives given to new businesses include state income tax credit, investment tax credit, and exemptions from sales and use tax on building materials used in remodeling, rehabilitation, or new construction within the zone, Greenhalgh says. The idea currently is being studied by the legislature, says State Senator Cary Peterson.
