Show Are divorce settle- low-incom- ments fair to women? by Dennis Hinkamp Consumer Information Writer Utah State University , The high divorce rate is not news. Its divorce settlements that usually make the news these days. Lee Marvin and Johnny Carson are almost as famous for their divorce settlements as they are as enter- tainers. Most settlements, however, dont make the na- tional news. Although we have a general notion that spitting things down the middle is the ideal divorce settlement, we have only a vague idea of what the middle is. It is not quite as simple as sorting things out one for you and one for me. They are in the process of trying to raise funds to finance their trip to Washington. I am sure they would appreciate any and all help that anyone might be able to give. It is hard for me to understand why these students have to be out there on their own (for the most part) trying to raise money to finance a trip which would represent their school. It is also my understanding that the school board has donated some money for the trip. I ask how it can be justified that their adviser has her trip financed by the school board and still is receiving wages for the year; yet the children, who have achieved the honor, must find their own financing. How can we justify hiring an assistant superintendent, yet our board does not have a budget which would rake care of items or functions such as these? Is the work load so great on the superintendent that an assistant need be hired? Why have we never needed one in the past? What are our priorities? Is not our childrens welfare in education of the utmost importance, or is the hiring assistant superintendent to lessen someones workload? of-a- It seems to me that somewhere we have some wires crossed. Will things of this nature take away' the initiative of students to excel or to better themselves in school? I feel we need to take a hard look at what is best for the children. We must not forget the one thing about our children. They are our future and they must be prepared to most-importa- nt meet that future.
