Show jenpn 5' ' Window On P i Main Street' ' ') By Mariann Gibson Sunday night with thoughts of the next days activities on our minds, morning came bright and early, that is if we ever got to sleep in the first place. Watching the clock is not the most relaxing way to prepare for climbing Mt. Nebo. When the alarm clock went off, my only thoughts were well today is the day and do I really want to do this?. Lying in bed isnt going to solve a A ,ft TACO I TIME , I To those of us who went to bed p , U I ' any problems so up and at em. A few last minute packing and rechecking. What have I ? One last got in the check to make sure one of my children hadnt climbed in to hide. I mean how heavy can dehydrated soup and Vienna sausage be. Oh well, a few sacrifices must be made, so lets leave the makeup kit home. Besides, after two days without a shower, who is going to want to get close enough to see if back-pack- UMM J Baas mm your eyeliner is on straight. The scene of the front entrance to Juab Middle School had an uncanny resemblance to an evacuation center after a hurricane. The happy, eager hikers were full of enthusiasam. For those who have been through this before, the mood was more toward eager reluctance (with a capital R). Just looking around at all the equipment, we can only hope that everyone remembered that they were only going for three days and it was highly unlikely that any impromptu dances or parties would spring up. Therefore, clothing would be the bare essentials and, lets be serious, curling irons? Now really. What am I doing here! At this point our bus has slowly wound its way up the Nebo Loop road through a blaze of autumn color, weve struggled into our backpacks (one bus has been delayed due to some mechanical problems), and we have maneuvered our way for three to four hours of up and down and more up and down. Oh, our aching backs, shaking legs, and sore feet. But alas, weve reached Board Camp, pitched our tents, gone for water. We have simply given in to the fact that we are pooped. Of course there are other problems now to face; .where's the biffy, and do I really want to climb to the peak tomorrow? Ask me in the The Times-New- Morning has arrived, and the answer for the majority is no way! For those staying behind its time for school, while I retreat to my tent to write and perhaps to catch up on a little stolen sleep. My kingdom for some sleep. When you are exhausted and in pain, the last thing you need is a king-sizeteenage slumber party. Silence eventually took the place of the giggles, talking, and the endless borrowing. I was amazed at how few matches were brought. And the supplies of those who came prepared were quickly exhausted, and thanks to a 3 a.m. gab session which started up with a noisy, smokey fire, very few of us in girls camp got much sleep. Well, well try again tonight, I d hope. I have some bad news and I have some good news. The bad TACOS Times-New- s Volume 83, No. 38 September 19, 1985 Vance P. & Allan R.
