Its the day when the average citizen can quit working just to pay the tax collector and start dolspending his lars on other things. The date of Tax Freedom Day is computed annually by the Tax Foundation of Washington, D.C. The average' U.S. taxpayer now works 120 days each year to get the tax collector off his back, the same as in 1984. As recently as 1981, the U.S. worker put in 126 days (until May 6) to pay his tax bills. In 1929, Tax Freedom Day was Feb. 9. By 1933, it fell on March 5. April 6 was Tax Freedom Day in 1943. In 1964 and 1965, tax day and Tax Freedom Day coincided on April 15. Not until 1969 did Tax Freedom Day fall in May (May 1). Stated another way, the average worker in 1985 will spend two hours and 38 minutes on the job each day just to meet his tax obligations. More of the average Americans eight-hou- r work day is spent earning money for the tax collector than for any other item in the family budget. Shelter takes the next largest slice of the work day at one hour and 34 minutes. Food takes 59 minutes; transportation, 42 minutes; medical care, 35 minutes; clothing, 21 minutes; recreation, 20 minutes; and all other items combined, 51 minutes. d related will be held demonstrations others. at the indoor arena Those having questions about at the fairgrounds. Well, no one needs to worry about Emalie Jones first grade class at the Mona Elementary School. The class recently completed a quilt which they took from first step to last step. Each child colored a design with craft crayons, and the designs were ironed onto quilt blocks and sewed together, explained Mrs. Jones. Linda Garfield, one of the mothers, put the blocks into an quilt top. The day the 27 students tied the quilt, Mrs. Jones mother, Stella Adamson of Draper, came to class to assist with the eye-appeali- project. Shirlene Wright, another clasroom mother, also helped to finish the quilt. We gave each child the opportunity to tie the quilt. It was quite a circus for a while. Some of them caught on right away, but others didnt, Mrs. Adamson said. Still, the class project made up into an attractive quilt and the students will get., many, chances to use it because it willgo to the sick room at the PORTRAIT SPECIAL FOR MOTHERS DAY 1 Pictures will be taken April 29th thru May 4th.
