Tenth graders on the high honor roll are Shane Harward, Although no citizen recommendations were proposed to the council, City Administrator Randy McKnight suggested that requesting funds for the rehabilitation of the homes of needy people in Nephi would be in keeping with the national intent of the program, and would meet the criteria set up by HUD and by the regional organization which will award the grants. The council plans to apply for both a $30,000 and a $60,000 housing rehabilitation grant this year. The $60,000 amount would be easier and more worthwhile to administer, McKnight said, but the city wants to show that it is willing to take any amount to help make improvements in the living conditions of Nephis residents. Nebo Training Center in Nephi, met with the Nephi City Council Feb. 1 to ask for the sod from their portion of the old Juab High School football field to help landscape the center. The city is planning to begin construction of a new fire station on the property in the near future, and as there will be no need for the grass, agreed to donate it to the center. Beardall also mentioned to the council that TRAIL, Inc., has received a $255,000 grant from the Utah Department of Transportation to build a bus maintenance facility at the school. The facility will be used to service the schools vehicles. Beardall also hopes to set up automobile and bus service contracts with the school district, the city, and other governmental organizations. As the project is still in the planning stage, Beardall did not give officials any idea of the cost of such a service, but said that part of the work would be done by students at the training center. He also said that in keeping with the terms of the grant, he hopes to set up a mass transit system in Nephi and in the area.
