The vast desert between East Juab County and Ely, Nevada will be crossed with a high voltage line in the near future to tie the Utah Power & Light Co. with the Sierra Pacific Power Company, according to an announcement made late last week by E. A. Hunter, President of UP&L. Although the definiae location for the tie into the UP&L grid was not announced, it was stated that it will be at a point in the Richfield-Neparea. The UP&L line will extend 120 miles to the Nevada border and the Sierra tie will be at The high voltage this point. line will deliver large blocks of power Into Nevada. Currently under construction in the Nephi area Is the UP&L line which will extend Into the Four Comers area of southeastern Utah and provide a tie there with Colorado and New Mexico companies. Such interconnections as the new one with Sierra in Nevada, Mr. Hunter pointed out, make possible pooling between utilities and provide many alternate sources of power in the event of emergency, Bigger, more efficient units can be constructed under the pooling arrangement. Matron Funeral services for Ann Eliza Marsjen Leavitt Stephenson, 89, were conducted Saturday at the Nephi Fourth Ward chapel, with Bishop Ralph E. Chase in charge. Mrs. Stephenson died July 29 at the Juab County Hospital of naturhl causes. She was bom December 18, 1880 )n Salt Lake City, daughter of Charles T. and Isabell Harker Marsden. She was married jo John Leavitt July 16, 1900 t Cardston, Alberta, Canada, ind the marriage later was Sized at the Salt Lake jje of the Church of Jesus Saints. Mr. of Latter-da- y A died December 15, 1912. was married to Thomas ephenson July 26, 1922 at lake City and since that had resided in Nephi. Stephenson was a nurse throughout her life. MONTANA AThmAmT Voluntarily turning himself in to the Juab County Sher-rl-f on Wednesday was Carl Leavitt, 33, of Salt Lake City. Sheriff Duane Sperry said a warrant had been Issued for Leavitts arrest in connection with the recent burglary of Nephi Clinic. Services Held 12 noon at the Monument at the head of Santaquln Canyon, lunch. - Although levies are considered tentative until approval is received from the State Tax Commission, it appears that taxpayers in Juab County will not be paying more than last year, and there are slight decreases possible, according to a preliminary report this week. Mona, Levan and Nephi City levies are the same as last year, as is the Central Utah Water Conservancy District. W. Superintendent Ralph Menlove of the Juab School District stated that the District levy is set at the time the school year budget is formulated prior to the beginning of the next fiscal year. Harkins. The young man died in action in Vietnam. Ed. was bom In Nephi, the son of Edison and Norma Evans Christiansen Harkins. The family now resides in Beverly Shores, Indiana. Mrs. Harkins is a sister of Mrs. Alton S. (Lucille) Gadd of Nephi. Cancer Crusade Taps Goal; Thanks Extended VaLoy Menlove, local cancer crusade chairman, extends a sincere thanks to the residents of East Juab County for generous contributions which have made it possible for the Cruc-ad- e to exceed the goal of $800. You truly di dfight cancel with a check Mrs. Menlove stated, did you fight it with a check-u- p as well? d Crews Clear Dangerous Rock from Canyon Forest Service crews last week used diamite and cleared a large rock which was threatening to fall onto the Salt Creek Canyon road. The rock was the remnant from a rock slide which occur-e- d several weeks ago and which blocked the road for a short time. The road will now be much safer, with ample room for cars to pass at this point In the Black arrows. Ranger Harold Laird stated that patching operations on the road will progress this week. A representative of the Provo Social Security office will be In Nephi on August 10. Weed Control Methods in Gfy Attention is called to the fact that some property owners are allowing their property to become a fire hazard as the weeds are not being cut to the point that they do not become a public nuisance. Drying grass and weeds constitute serious fire hazards. A condition of this kind is in direct violation of Nephi City This ordinOrdinance 1969-ance also gives the City the uthority to abate the problem where owners are negligent or refuse to take care of it. The same ordinance also givs Nephi City authority to bill the property owner for services rendered, and to add this amount to property taxes. Property owners are asked to please cooperate in this mat- ter. This ordinance applies to the too many corrals, feed yards and other places where animals are kept, and where owners do not keep manure properly taken care of. ELDEN C.
