Show 467 Computer system would save county money, company says At their Monday meeting, .members of the Juab County Commission examined the possibility of installing a computer system to help manage county operations. Stan Sutherland and Arthur Partridge of Progressive Management Services met with the commission. They discussed the feasibility of replacing the county's current manual bookkeeping and recordkeeping operations with an automated system. A study was presented. It included details of each office function, reviewing a five-yehistory of cost estimates for 1981-198The estimates were based on a declining inflation rate and an increasing work load. The study compared manual operating costs with those of a computerized system. It also projected a total benefit figure derived by taking the costs that the new system would help the county avoid, and value received by more accurate and timely service to the taxpayer. The study showed that in 1981 the county offices would spend $217,989 to operate manually. Under the automated system, the cost would be approximately $169,387, a difference of $65,541, i cost-benef- it ar 5. the businessmen say. The total benefit figure would increase substantially each year, the computer proponents say, and by 1985 the computer system would sav6 the county approximately $168,000. The system is presently being used by eight other counties, and although no definite commitments were made at the meeting, the commission seemed to think that this is the computer they need. th ar Says Nephi Chamber of Commerce ' Members of the Nephi Chamber of Commerce met with the Juab County Commission Monday to express their dissatisfaction with the Panoramaland organization and to seek money to promote Juab County. The Panoramaland organization was organized by the Six County Commissioners organization to promote tourism in the area. It receives its funding from transient room taxes. From July 1, 1980 to March 31, 1981 Panoramaland collected $7,189 for tourist promotion, but the .ycbamber.'-o- f commerce representatives say that about all they are getting out of the money is promotional restaurant placemats. The placemats are printed with a map of Panoramaland, including the Little Sahara recreation area and the Nebo Loop. The placemats cost about $25 per thousand, and it was suggested that the remainder of the tax money goes towards administration costs of the agency. Maybe theyve got the best pitching weve seen all year, says Wasp coach Alan Sperry. Our pitcher, Rick Steele, is also throwing real well, so it may come down to a pitchers dual.
