Jackson For some deerhunters, it was a matter of not being able to get out of camp due to the snow on opening day. For others, it was a matter of not being able to find a deer once they got out of camp. And for still others, no number of guns and no amount of ammunition could fell the deer they found. But that doesnt mean there were no deer taken during Deer Hunt 79. For some hunters, it was just about as good as any in the past. One such lucky hunter was Jim Eisel of Nephi. He brought home his biggest buck ever. Eisel said he bagged the buck opening morning at about 8:30 near Sweetwater Creek, northwest of Fish Lake. He said he and his hunting party was afoot. This was one of my best hunts, Eisel said. He said no now had fallen at the time he shot the deer, though a storm arrived as he was retrieving the animal. The bucks antlers have four points on one side and five on the other. Eisel used a rifle. Basil Rollins and his son, Calvin, said they hunted almost every day of the hunt and finally bagged a buck on the day of the season. The elder Rollins said the buck was probably about 10 years old and weighed about 225 pounds, though it felt hke it weighed a ton when it was time to load it in the truck. . Jackson A few hundred years ago, before white settlers came from the east and put down roots, round houses were the word in the Intermountain area. Many of the Indians who inhabited the area lived in round structures called hogans. They were efficient dwell- ings and suited the mountain climate well. But after the area was settled by another race, square buildings began to dot the landscape and, other than an occasional tabernacle, state capitol, or church, round houses went the way of the woolly mammoth. But now, in southeast Nephi, a round house revival is under way. Ron Powell, a construction worker from Utah County, is the man behind the dome home being built on a subdivision lot there. "Theres lots of theory behind this place, he said as he worked inside the dome made of foam. Powell said he and his wife hope to move in as early as Januarv, though the building won't be complete for about two vears. A skin was fashioned from reinforced plastic sheeting and, after the skin was inflated with air, the foam was sprayed from the inside. Before long, concrete strengthened by steel rods will line the inside and the outside also will get a coating of some sort. A number of windows and doors will be installed, including a large round window aimed at the winter sun (about 60 up from the horizontal). A large sliding-glasdoor will also be installed on the lower level. Powell said he is designing the dome to make the best possible use of natural and incidental (such as that given off by a kitchen appliance) heat as possible. A thick layer of gravel under the floor is expected to store heat and the foam insulation will help keep the heat inside where it will be appreciated.
