Show Two copies of Roots available at public library Two copies of Hoots by Alex Haley are now available at the Nephi Public Library so that a greater number of persons may enjoy this fascinating book, according to Mrs. Eloise Spencer, City Librarian. Mrs. Spencer also encourages parents and children to obtain books from the childrens book department of the library. We have many new childrens books now on the shelves and we encourage children to keep 'Nephi's 110 Years' City government Editors note: This is another in a series of articles on the history of Nephi. Nephi did not obtain a federal building until July 25, 1932. Plans were completed long before this, but the First World War brought curtailment of practically all construction and it was not resumed for some time afterward. In September, 1931, the old tithing house was torn down and the Federal building was constructed in its place on the east side of Main at Center Street (Ibid, September 3, 1931). Fitting ceremonies and a program marked the dedication, including the placing of a memory box in the cornerstone that contained the history of the Nephi Post Office from the time that Timothy B. Foote first served as postmaster to the time of dedication (Ibid, July 21, 1932). The Post Office and Forest Service are now house (1961) in the Federal Building. During 1942, Nephis Post Office had grown in volume and business to the extent that it was made a second-clas- s post office (Ibid, July 2, 1942). In 1938 a new National Guard Armory was dedicated in Nephi. The cost of the building was $38,000 dollars (Ibid, September 29, 1938). The building is located directly across the street south from the Central School on First North and First East. It is equipped with a large drill hall has not had a city manager. The ordinance is still in effect, however, and if the mayor deems it necessary and the city council approves, a city manager can be appointed.
