Weve fouled things up in the past but last week takes the cake! We had been a week ahead all week, tried to put the wrong dates on the Venice advertisement when Shirley Foote brought it in, and in general were ahead of ourselves. We regret all the trouble we caused the good folks who read REGularly Speaking, and as we explained to the multitude of callers who questioned the advise, we just plain goofed. No one was very early for conference meeting Sunday morning, but several were late because of our good. reg This week! Thats the correct word reg The word is that a former Nephi man has been named to a national, panel to study methods of disease prevention. He is Dr. Franklin Keith Brough, son of Mrs. Blanche B. Dr. Brough is executive secretary of the Utah Lung Association, formerly the Tuberculosis prevention association. reg A visitor to Nephi last Friday was Karl J. Bray, Utah Libertarian Partys lone candidate. Bray is candidate for Congress and was making the rounds of the Utah Second Congressional District. Parties issue invitations to headquarters Voters in East Juab County are being invited by the officers of the two predominant political parties to visit their headquarters on election night, November 5. Invitations have been issued by Mrs. Clarence Greenhalgh of the Juab County Republican Committee, and Mrs. Steve Greenwood of the Juab County Democratic Committee. Mrs. Greenwood said that the Democratic headquarters will be at the Nebo Training Center building (old Central School) and that voters are invited to call at the headquarters for refreshments from 6 p.m. throughout the evening. Mrs. Greenhalgh said that the Republican headquarters will be at the Fine Arts Center, 165 East First South, and that voters are invited to call throughout the evening from 5 p.m. Voters in two districts of the Juab School District Board of Education will be electing board members on November 5, according to the official ballot. Lawrence D. Brough and Clarence C. Cowan are candidates for the office in the Levan-SoutNephi district, officially known as representative district 5. They seek the office held for many years by Clinn A. Morgan of Levan. Brough is a cattle buyer and livestock raiser, and formerly was a teacher in the Juab Junior High School. Cowan is an employee of the State Road Commission and formerly served as a board member. In representative district number 4, comprising parts of Nephi Voting Districts 1 and 2, William Boyd Howarth is the candidate. Mr. Howarth currently serves on the board, and is unopposed for the position. Mr. Howarth is an employee of Pexton Wholesale Co., Inc. Voters in voting districts 1 and 2 in Nephi (comprising the areas of the former Nephi first and second LDS wards) will be required to determine (with the aid of the election judges) just which of the three ballots available to them is the correct on on which to vote. Those living south of fourth south street will vote a ballot marked S5, meaning school representative district 5; those living between fourth south and center street in voting district 2, and in the area between fourth south and first south (east of third east) will vote the ballot marked S4, and those residing outside of these school district areas will have a ballot which contains no school district candidates.. The school district candidates, together with the judicial and state school district candidates are at the extreme right of the ballot, in an area plainly marked non partisan. County Clerk Earl Warner said that maps are being prepared to be used in the two Nephi voting districts affected, so that voters can easily recognize which school representative district they live in. Are you registered to vote? Tuesday, October 29 is the final day tor registering for the November 5 general election, and the final day for transfering from one voting district to another within the county, according to Earl L. Warner, Juab County Clerk. Prospective voters also may register at the County Clerks office until 5 p.m. on Friday, October 25. The County Clerk indicated that in years past some citizens have been denied their voting privileges because they had not properly transfered from one district to another. The place of residence determines voting district, Warner said. The official publication of the voting ballot will be made in next weeks edition, in accordance with the law. Voters are encouraged to watch for the ballot and to study it prior to going to the voting booth. percent power rate boost in Nephi 17V2 Nephis citizens will be paying about 174 percent more for their electrical power come the first of November, according to a release made this week by the Citys Recorder, Evan A. Frampton. Over the past several years, Nephi City has been billing on the same rate as Utah Power & Light Company. Recently, UP&L made an increase in their rates by approximately 174 percent. The Nephi City Council has voted to adopt UP&L residential rates to become effective on November 1. says Frampton. Nephi City has been purchasing its electrical power from the Bureau of Reclamation, but last April, the Bureau clamped a ceiling on power usage. Any power needs higher than that ceiling must be purchased at a higher price from other sources, says Frampton. He cites this as one reason that the power rates have been raised. Another reason for the rate increase, according to Frampton, is the increased cost of building materials being used in the rebuilding of the Citys electrical system. The City is repairing present facilities and beefing them up due to the increase in the number of electrically heated homes in the area. Frampton said. Symphony sets Nephi concert Announcement was made Tuesday by Dr. Kirk Wright, principal of Juab High School, that the Utah Symphomy-Orchestr- a will present a concert at the Juab High School gymnasium on Tuesday, November 5 at 1:30 p.m. The concert is being presented under a legislative grant, according to school officials. The public is invited to attend, Dr. Wright said. To Help You Know Your Local Candidates L if gij- - it j & VI after fall Rodney Jones, 9, son of Dr. and Mrs. Nelson L. Jones, is reported in satisfactory condition at the University Medical Center in Salt Lake City following a fall Saturday afternoon near the head of Footes Canyon on the southeast slope of Mt. Nebo. Dr. Jones said Tuesday evening that the boy was doing fine, and that he was to be moved from the intensive care unit on Wednesday. According to Sheriff A. Duane Sperry and Deputy Greg Newton, the first call for assistance came at 2:30 Saturday afternoon, and it was not until 12:45 a.m. Sunday morning that the helicopter bearing the young man took off from the nearly inaccessible site. We asked for helicopter aid from Dug-wa- y as soon as we were able to pinpoint the location of the boy, and the helicopter crew included the pilot, a doctor, and two medics. said Sherriff A.' Duane Sperry. Because of the rough terrain, Sheriff Sperry pointed out the craft was unable to land close to the young mans location. It is understood that Rodney was in the area with his father and others in the party, and had been tending the horses when he fell some 40 feet over a ledge. Those familiar with the area indicate that it is very treacherous, with many steep ledges. After he was taken some 3000 yards to the waiting helicopter, he was taken directly to the University Hospital in Salt Lake. His Father accompanied him to Salt Lake City, Sheriff Sperry said. Sheriff Sperry said that those W'ho participated in one way or another in the rescue included Greg Newton and Bob Day of the Sheriffs Department, Dale Worwood, Bill Worwood, De Kelsey, Les Draper, Kenneth Ingram, Richard Whittington, James Garrett, Ron Anderson, Forrest Anderson, Jim Pexton, Terry Haney, Jack and Jim Shaw, Clark Pris-breGlenn Greenhalgh, Bill and Randy Howard, Ton Jeffs, Don Barton, Earl and Rodger Jarrett, and LeGrand Wilson.
