Pay Postmaster , Carrier End Long Postal Careers After serving as postmaster at Nephi tor 33 years, Fred L. Gadd is announcing his retirement effective June 30. John V. Garrett, who has been assistant postmaster for the past several years, has e of the been appointed Nephi office, and has this week assumed these duties. Mr. Gadd served as president of the Utah Chapter, National Association of and was host to the Postmasters in 1967-6Utah Postmaster convention in Nephi in 1965. He served as postmaster trainer and counselor for 20 years, and during his term of office the Nephi Post Office received two national citations for merit and beautification. Active in scouting, he has received the Silver Beaver and Scouters award, and has served as Juab District chairman, and presently is a member of the executive board of National Parks Council. He served for many years as secretary-treasure- r of the Ute Stampede committee Mr. Gadd was appointed Juab County Clerk and later was elected to a four term, resigmng after two years to accept the postmaster appointment. He and Mrs Gadd, the former Itha Parkes, plan to continue their residence in Nephi, and to visit with members of their family: Carol G. Kingsolver and James F. Gadd, Provo; Dr. Galen N. Gadd, Seattle and Margaret G. Brady, Lawrence, Kansas. Monday Othel L. Pay, veteran carrier of the Nephi post office, will retire as of the end of service this week, according to a recent announcement. Mr. Pay began as a substitute carrier October 1, 1941, and soon after became a full time employee. During the years of his service, Mr. Pay has been assigned to the north portion of Nephi Active in the Nephi Lions Club, he has served m many positions, and recently was chairman of the committee which constructed the bowery at the Nephi City Park. He has been sportsman representative on the state Board of Big Game Control for six years, and has been a representative from Utah Sportsmen on the National Wildlife Federation board He currently is serving as a member of the Bureau of Land Management advisory board, representing sportsmen of the area . During Mr. Pays years of service, most of the time the carriers walked over their routes; later bicycles were used, and in recent months, motorized units have been instituted. In a hurried estimate, it is considered that Mr. Pay has delivered over 10 million pieces of mail. This is based on an average of lOOOpieces of mail per day, five days per week for 32 years, plus the Christmas loads Mr. Pay intends to keep as active as his health will permit, and to catch up on his fishing duties, as well officer-in-charg- Trail Ride Testifies Dont forget the Juab Stake Trail Ride Thats the advice of those in charge of the big annual event to be held on July 7. The ride will take place in the Red Cliffs area east of Nephi. Committeemen will bs serving breakfast from 6:30 until 8:00 am at the Old Pinery. Those going on the ride should bring their own sack lunch; and dinner will be served to everyone at the Old Pinery areat at 3:30 pm At Hearings Nephi again will host the Blackhawk Encampment m connection with the Ute Stampede, it has been announced by Earl Bowles, first vice president, and chairman of the local arrangements The encampment will be at the Nephi City park beginning July 9, and continuing until July 14 Campers are expected to move into the park area after noon on Sponsored annually by the Sons and Daughters of Utah Pioneers and Indian War Veterans, the Blackhawk has been held m Nephi several times recently. It was held here in connection with the first Ute Stampede m 1935 features programs The encampment from various Central Utah communities, with Nephi presenting the first program at 7pm on Monday Merrill Christensen and Dick Conover will entertain Tuesday at 2 p m , followed at 7 p m by a program from Fountain Green, and at 8 p m by Genola. On Wednesday, the schedule calls for Payson at 2 p m , Benjamin at 3, Fairview at 7 and Provo at 8 Santaquin will represent their program at 2 p m Thursday, and those encamped here will attend the Thursday evening parade and rodeo Concluding programs, on Friday, will be by American Fork at 2 pm. and Springville at 7 p m Mr Bowles has issued an invitation for Nephi residents to attend any and all of the program presentations Be Area Executive R. Sons and daughters-m-laof the couple are hosts and hostesses for the occasion Mr. and Mrs. Greenhalgh were married June 28, 1923 at the Manti LDS Temple, and resided in Lynndyl and Nephi. Mr. Greenhalgh was an employee of the Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement in w 1966 Mrs Greenhalgh (Leone Igram) has served in the Relief Society and MIA as a 1 class leader, in the ward genealogical program and as treasurer of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Mr. Greenhalgh was secretary of the Elders quorum for five years, and served in the Sunday School superintendency at Lynndyl. He also has been active in genealogical work, and was an advisor m the ward Aaronic Priesthood program. Sons of the couple are Taryl, Richfield, Glade, Midvale, Jack, Cedar City and Paul, Taylorsville. The couple also has 13 and two great grandgrandchildren children. A no gifts request has been made.
