Approval followed a detailed analysis of the suitable habitat and the potential environmental and social impacts of the introduction. Analysis of the potential habitat began in 1969 soon after the DWR requested permission for the introduction. A public meeting, direct mail, and news releases, as well as personal conversations, were used to solicit comments from the general public, livestock permittees, sportsmen, local water improvement districts, and State and County Governmental representatives. Analysis of these inputs and completion of an Environmental Analysis Report resulted in final approval of the introduction. Copies of the report are available for reading at the U. S. Forest Service and Division of Wildlife Resources offices in Provo. . . Lloyd Stevens, Regional Supervisor of the DWR said they hoped to capture 8 to 10 animals this winter.on the north slope of the Uinta Mountains in Summit County. The animals will be shot from a helicopter with a tranquilizer gun and transported to the release site. It is believed that the animals will remain in the Fish Creek and Ponlown drainages, initially. As numbers increase, they may spread to suitable habitat in the head of the White River on the Uinta National Forest. Habitat studies indicate a herd of approximately 100 head could be maintained without al feeling the carrying capacity of the range for livestock. Moose have occasionally been sighted in Ibis area in past years. A cow moose was observed near Cleveland Reservoir al the head of Hunting-Io- n Crook Ibis fall. This area is ho fart host south that tnonsf vonturo in North Amorica. The moose is the largest meinbej of the deer family. Bulls may weigh up to 1,200 pounds and have an antler spread of H) inches. Poaching could seriously jeopardize the success of Ihis introduction. The cooperation of sportsmen and other interested citizens will le essential if a herd is (o become established. There is a standing reward of $:tixi for information leading to the conviction of persons illegally taking moose. jWE HAVE SEVERAL ONE-OF-KIND ITEMS (Discontinued models A- etc.) 5 PRICED AT 50 SOFA !
