Gadd, present chairman of the Board of County Commissioners wu elected for a two year term, and E. Steele McIntyre of Mammoth was elected for the four year term in die elections held Tuesday throughout the County. Mr. Gadd is a Democrat, Mr. McIntyre is a Republican. Commissioner Gadd polled 1270 votes G. Ray Kelsons 1123, and Mr. total was 1500, with Mr. West-rin- g ever Mc-Intry- es 924. In one of the dose races, Sherman P. Lloyd lost by 47 votes to Wayne Owens in the rase for Representative in Mr. Owens won the race Congress. throughout the district Juab County gave Governor Calvin an almost victor over Republican Nicholas Strike, the tally being 1553 for Rampton against 849 SIGNING THE CONTRACT for the eon- Deten- traction of the new Center at Nephl took place on Monday. Tlmes-New- s Photo Work SI Detention Cerates Tri-Cou- nty Construction will begin within a few Dedays on the new Juab tention Center at Nephi, following the signing of the contract for the building on Monday of this week. Juab County Commissioners signed the contract with Valley Builders, low bidder on the project. The new jail facility is to be located on County property on the comer of First West and Center streets, and will face the west ty George T. Orgill Dies; Funeral Set 11 a.m. Saturday Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Juab Stake House for George Thomas Orgill, 86, who died at the Juab County Hospital Tuesday evening, November 7 of natural causes. Friends may call at Anderson Funeral Home Friday evening from 7 to 9 oclock, and Saturday prior to the services. Mr. Orgill was bom at Mills, Utah February 28, 1886, a son of Thomas Wm. and Emma Anderson Orgill. He resided in Mills uneil approximately 30 years ago, when he moved to Nephl and the Orgill ranch just south of Nephl. He and his late brother, Joseph A. Orgill, donated the huge Orgill Ranch and the Angus Cattle on it to Juab . Stake several years ago. Throughout his life time he had maintained an interest in raising purebred Angus Cattle, and had taken a great pride in the fine cattle strains on the ranch. Mr. Orgill had never married, and I was the last member of his family. There are no immediate survivors. Burial at the Vine Bluff cemetery will be directed by Anderson Funeral Home. - . Don Anderson, representing Valley Builders, indicated that the project will take 180 days to complete. d Cost of the facility will be $144,500, with $$62,500 of this amount coming from a Law Enforcement Assistance Administration Grant and the Region 5 Law Enforcement Council Action Funds. The remaining $82,000 will be supplied by Juab County, Nephi City, and Revenue Sharing funds. The new detention building will have a capacity and will provide office space for the Juab County Sheriff, Nephi City Police and the Utah Highway Patrol. The design of the building allows the optimum in officer safety, and prisoner detention. In addition to holding areas, special interrogation rooms are provided in the facility, and other features for sanitation, laundry, etc. Sanpete and Millard Counties have entered into an agreement with Juab County to utilize the new detention center as needs require. Nephi Lady Mr. and Mrs. Gordon A. Jones and family of Bountiful were in Nephi on Tuesday of this week to attend funeral services for Larry Garfield. They also visited with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mrs. George V. Jones in Nephi, and Leonard Garfield in Mona. E. Garfield Services Conucted Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday at the Juab Stake House tor Larry Dale Garfield, 19, who died Saturday at the Juab County Hospital of natural causes. Bishop K. J. Sperry of the Nephl Third Ward conducted the services. The young man was bom June 23, 1953 in Nephi, a son of Leonard Dale aund Dorene Bowles Garfield. Lived In Houston, Texas until a year ago. He was a roofer by occupation. Surviving are his mother, Nephi, his father, Fort Worth, Texas; a brother( Robert Garfield of Nephl and his grandmother, Ruth Garfield of Mona. Burial at the Vine Bluff cemetery was directed by Anderson Funeral Home of Nephi. Juab County Hospital Patient List as of Wednesday Services Held for Brother Relatives and friends from Nephi were In Payson Monday to attend funeral services for Douglas Dixon, 68, brother of Mrs. Theo (Jean) Westring of Nephi. Mr. Dixon died on November 2. In addition to his widow, the former Beth Call, he is survived by six children, 11 grandchildren and several brothers and sisters. Mr. Dixon had owned an doperated Dixon Market at Payson since 1929. Alton S. Gadd, elected for two-yeterm ay Orgaization Meeting Scheduled for November 15 Of for Strike. Cary G. Peterson, Nephl carried Juab County 1779 to Homer U. Petersens 628 in the race for State Representative. In the portion of Utah county covered by the Representtlve District Mr. Peterson polled 415, against Mr. Petersens 268. The incumbent representative led by some 500 votaes in his home county, Millard, but this was not sufficient to overcome the Nephi residen's huge lead. Totals were 3751 for Cary G. Peterson and 3000 for Homer U. Petersen. Dr. G. Stanford Rees of Gunnison polled 326 more votes than Russell Gray of Ephraim in the Senate race, with Mr. Parsons gaining 35 votes. Dr. Rees, a Republican, will represent the and other county district as Senator. In the state school board race, Steven Garrett of Cedar City won the position In over Harriet H. Eliason of Delta. Juab County, Mr. Garrett polled 1181 to 764, and on the district- - tally, he won by several ithouand votes. In the Juab School Board races, E. Alton Ellertson, 1, and K. J. Sperry, 2 were James L. elected without opposition. Painter, district 3, was elected over Timothy H. Irons by 239 to 156. In the fourth district, William Boyd Howarth polled 227 to win over Vinton G. Steiner with 141. Clinn A. Morgan, incumbent member of the board from Levan, gained the position with 208 votes over his opponent, Maurice L. Memmott, also an incumbent member of the board, with 189 votes a margin of only 19 votes. Mrs. George Parkin Mrs. George Parkin was honored on her 87th birthday anniversary on Sunday November 5 when 87 gathered to observe the occasion. Her eight children and partners were present, including Mr. and Mrs. Victor Gadd (Leola) of Sait Lake iCty; Mr. and Mrs. Carlyle Wall (Lucille) of Santaquin; Mr. and Mrs. John Parkin, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carter (Georgia), Mr. and Mrs. Frank Parkin, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Parkin, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parkin, all of Nephi, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Christiansen (Beth) of Springville. Also present were 17 of her 35 grandchildren, 41 of her 72 great grandchildren, ond one of two of her great great grandchildren. Andreasen and Valorie Kae Gee, both Nephi, on November 6 BROOM SALE Plans are completed for the annual Nephi Lions Club Broom Sale, according Jto Jay C. Mickelson, project chairman, and James Cook, public relations chairman of tire organization. The annual sale win be conducted on Thursday evening, November 16 when club members will be calling on residents of the community in and their project Mr. Mkkdson stated that brooms and other items being offered for sale in this project are made by blind individuals at the Utah Center for the Blind in Salt Lake City, and that funds from the clubs purchase of the brooms provide salaries for the men and women who have become skilled in production of brooms and other materials at the center. Making of brooms provides their livelihood. Profits derived from the broom sale are used by the local club, and by the state organization in the organizations sight conservation program. In addition to household brooms being offered this year, the sale also will include whisk brooms, push brooms, satin pillow cases and oven mitts, Mr. Mickelson stated. Weather Report for week LEVAN STATION Jaycees Win Trophies Officials Atfend Special Conference Mayor and Mrs. E. C. Sherwood, Juab County Commissioner Richard G. Foote, and County Extension Agent Lynn Esplin were in Logan last week to attend the Cammunl-Lin- k Convention held on Monday through Wednesday at the Utah State University. This is a special project developed by the Colorado State University foar 14 western states, and helps citizens op a linked community as it mobilizes its resources toward solutions of common problems. It involves all groups and agencies in the community in identifying needs and problems. The meetings were attended by University personnel, Extension Services representatives as well as city and county official and other interested persons. The Nephi Jaycees, civic and service organization, was selected the most outstanding chapter in the state, and awarded a trophy in recognition of this honor convention held at at the Park City last weekend.
