July 10, 1972 Dear Editor: didnt intend to get involved in the newspaper discussion of the site for a freeway. But since it seems to be the hour of the protestors, I would like to make this statement I After many years of building highways with little or no regard for the ecology or the effect on the environment Congress passed a law requiring that a long range study be made on the ecology and the effect on the environment of any community or state before a highway is built This study has been made impartially by a group of experts for the Utah State Road Commission. Now what I or John Doe thinks is not too important because we are partial and are not experts qualified to cover all the aspects of this all important situation. After reading this report myself, I News of the Senior Citizens Senior Citizens will enjoy a pot luck dinner at the Fountain Green park on Wednesday, July 19 at 12 noon. Members are to bring their own dishes. On July 26 there will be a social an' refreshments at the Center. Mrs. Arvilla Kendall, Dellis Painte. and Clarence Bowers attended funeral services at Fountain Green on Monday of this week for Mrs. Zell Nielson. Mrs. Nielson was a member of the Nephi Senior Citizens organization. to Messers Booths and Warners letters to the editor concerning Interstate is coming as It is true Interstate also suggested by Mr. Warner and it is true we must have it to meet the aftransportation requirements of our fluent society. However, I cant help but feel their views are based on emotionalism, rather than down to earth factual thinking. Their contengrass-roo- t is that we have no right to rape tion the infertile rock strewn benches of east Nephi and destroy its aesthetic value as building sites for future generations, but instead sacrifice our beautiful and productive farm lands for the freeway, is not responsible thinking. Since Mr. Warner desires to give a prognosis of the welfare of future generations I wonder what thought he has given to the feelings of the coming gen Dinner guests Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lunt were Mr. and Mrs. Farrell D. Much of the economy of our nation and that of Nephi is based on the productivity of our lands. We are complaining about the high cost of food, especially red meat. Taking more lands out of production for freeways, and special reference to that which Is unnecessary, will only worsen the situation. Mr. editor, I do not feel that I am an outsider looking in. The location of the freeway may affect me personnally, whether the effect will be good or bad cannot be judged at this juncture. The heritage we should leave posterity is a free country with a strong economy with the ability to feed itself and prosper as an affluent society and not sacrifice this heritage to preserve a few n building lots on an unproductive, infertile bench.
