Rites al n, . Nephi Lady Honored with Scouter Second Miler Award Sheri Menlove, Devon Vickers . . . engagement told Given From the JHS CLARION The Juab High School awards assembly was held May 15. At it. Student Activity Awards, commonly referred to as Block of jnerit were Js" and medals given, along with scholarships and special awards. Presented the Gates Athletic Awards were Dave Wilkey in the wrestling area; Scott Christensen in Basketball; Raymond Nielsen in Football; Dave Wilkey In Tennis; Kent Park, a sophomore in Track, and Steven Hall, a junior in baseball. All of the rest were seniors. Dave, winner of two Gates awards, also was offered a tennis scholarship to Dixie Junior College in St George. Receiving Delphic Literary Club awards, given to the student with the highest scholastic average out of boys and girls in the three top grades were: Scott Christensen and Mary Lou Ewell, twelfth grade; LuAnn Stanley and Tracy Olsen, eleventh grade; and Donna Green halgh, tenth grade. Also named were outstanding students, Raymond Nielsen and Mary Ellen Worwood, selected by balloting in the general elections. At the end of the assembly, the new officers for school year 1972-7- 3 were sworn in, and Raymond Nielsen, this years president made his final address, Girls Day Meet Held From the JHS CLARION Juabs annual girls day track meet went off like clockwork on Friday, May 12, with the Sophomores and the 9th grade caoming off with all the honors. The Sophomore victory was termed an upset, as they narrowly defeated the seniors by 4 points. The meet was more like a Decalathon than a track meet .because many people had to compete In several events This not only was tiring to the competitors, but it hurt the quality of the competition. Lets hope that more come out next year. The Freshmen had a large turn out of boys by comparison to the senior high. They used their superior size and speed to thoroughly dominate the junior high competition. The following people won the respective events: Senior high: shot put, Scott Christensen; discuss, Rod Shepherd; long jump, Ray Nielson; pole vault, Mark Greenhalgh; high jump, David! d dash, Layne Paxman; d Bowles; dash, Layne Vern Bowles; Vern Herman-sen- ; mile run Dennis Worwood; relay, 10th grade; relay, 12th grade. Finap points: 10th, 62; 12th, 58, and 11th, 34. 100-yar- 220-yar- Her-manse- n; 440-yar- 880-yar- d, Elden C. Sherwood, Juab District Boy Scouts Chairman, recently presented to Mrs. Frank (Arvilla) Lunt the Second Miler award for outstanding service to boys. Mrs. Lunt has been active for the past 28 years, and recently was recently released after serving fsince 1934 in various positions concerned with boys. Mrs. Lunt was first called to work in the Primary in 1934 when she became president of the South Ward Primary. Since that time she has held positions as a Sunday School teocher, member of the Primary stake board, president of the YMMIA, Guide patrol leader. Blazer She instructor and Primary organist also has spent 20 years working as a Red Cross first aid instructor. Representing the National Parks Council, Chairman Sherwood stated taht "all those who know Mrs. Lunt realize the good that she has done, and that in Scouting, she has done her best to do her duty to God an dher country. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Kay, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Kay enjoyed a week end trip. They visited Wayne Wonderland, Capitol Reef and Arches national monuments. Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Valley of the Gods, Zions National Park, Cedar Breaks, Hovenweeps and the Butch Cassidy home at Circleville. Sunday visitors at the home of Mrs. Hilda Newton were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Newton adn Mr. and Mrs. George Cali oun of Douglas, Arizona. Lewis and George have jjust graduated from the Brigham Young University.
