The East Juab Wildlife Federation expresses their thanks to the fishermen for using the trash barrels at Burraston Ponds north of Nephi. Members of the Federation hauled 30 barrels of trash to the dump in the first two days of the current fishing season, and therefore consider the drive on littering to be a great success. The fishermen cooperated very well. Many brought their own litter bags, tied them and placed them where they could be picked up. This is an extremely commendable effort by all people concerned and makes for better fishing, and cleaner water and surroundings. The Federation officers currently are considering building and placing picnic tables in the Burraston area in the future to further the recreational facilities of the area. Rampton. This extension of the benefit period be. gan June 13 and will last at least until September 11, depending upon unemployment conditions in the state. Governor Rampton also said that persons who have exhausted their unemployment insurance benefits during the past 12 months and who are still unemployed should contact their local Employment Security Office to see if they can receive additional benefits. The term of extension and the amount received is dependent upon an individuals previous benefit experience. He explained that the 1971 Utah Legislature made the present extension possible. Legislation passed provides that when the insured unemployment rate averages four per cent or more for 13 consecutive weeks (in this instance, February 28 through May 29) additional payments become available. Also, the 4 per cent average unemployment must be at least 20 per cent higher than in the same periods of the preceding two years. k, TIES JEWELRY X PHOTO EQUIPMENT SHIRTS SHOES SOX LEATHER GOODS BOOKS HOBBY TOOLS FISHING GEAR GOLF CAR ACCESSORIES BOAT EQUIPMENT Published Thursdays at Nephi, Juab County, Utah. Nephi News Briefs Smohey Sayst .'iffii MAN suggests: Listed to Prevent Spread Hydatid Disease caused by uncommon tapeworm of dogs and sheep is becoming a problem In Utah, noted Dr. T. A. Gillett, Utah State University Animal Science Department He said humans serve as an accidental host and develop hydatid cysts In lungs and liver and death can result under certain conditions. They are difficult to detect small, and usually cause little or no pain. Organ damage and rupture of the cysts can cause serious problems. The tapeworm cycle is completed by dogs eating hydatid cysts in sheep internal organs .especially the lungs, liver or intestines. The adult tapework attaches to the dogs Intestines and lays eggs which pass in the stools and are then transferred back to sheep. The eggs are so small it would take 500 to cover a pin head. They can be easily be passed on to humans by touching the fur or stools of Infected dogs with later contact with the mouth. The best control method Is to prevent dogs from eating sheep offal or organs. Infected dogs can be detected by microscopic examination of stools by trained personnel. Worming dogs is 100 per cent effective. All dead sheep and internal organs or offal should be properly disposed of by burning or taking them to a rendering plant for disposal to prevent dogs from eating them, Dr. Gillett advised. INSURANCE Your Worm Disease; Precautions Upward Trend in County ds HAT Sheepmen Warned on Tape Wool and Lamb Referendum Ballots voted by producers in the mail referendum on wool and lamb promotion now are arriving in the Juab County ASCS office, J. E. Worthington, chairman of the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committee said today. Friday June 18 is the last day for voting. Ballots not received in the County ASCS office by close of business on that day cannot be counted, Mr. Worthington pointed out Producers eligible to vote in the referendum are all those who have owned sheep, six months of age or older, for 39 consecutive days during 1970. To become effective, the agreement must be of approved nationally by two-thirthe total wool production represented in the referendum. If the agreement is not approved, no deductions will be withheld from producer payments on 1971 marketings.
