First prize in the local contest will be $100.00. In addition the young young lady will have her expenses pand to compete in the state contest to be held in Salt Lake City in February. Local judging will be on the same basis as the state and national contests. Entries Invited In Decoration Contest Home owners and residents of Nephi, Levan and Mona are invited to decorate their homes this Christmas time, and to compete in the contests being sponsored in the respective communities. In Levan, the Levan Lions Club invites all residents to enter the contest and to compete for the three prizes being given. Many residents are not only decorating their homes but are extending the decorations to include shrubbery and small trees in the yards. Judging and awarding of prizes will be during the holiday period. Under sponsorship of the Mona Lions Club, three rash prizes will be awarded in that community for the best decorations for the Yuletide. Nearly every home in Mona was decorated last Christmas time, and all are eligible this year with the lone exception of the first place winner of 1969. Judging will be completed on December 21, according to the Mona Lions officials. Only those homes which are registered in the Jaycees contest in Nephi will be judged, and those desiring to enter the competition should call Keith Steele or Richard May so that their homes will be included when judging takes place during the holiday period. All are eligible with the exception of 1969 first place winner. Jaycee to Sponsor Christmas Eve Visits Another Christmas activity being sponsored by the Nephi Jaycees is the "Christmas Eve Visits throughout the community. Parents desiring the visits of the Jaycee Santa Claus on Christmas eve should get groups of at least eight, and notify Keith Steele or Richard May before December 18, so that time schedules can be completed and the parents given a time schedule prior to December 23. Nephi News Briefs Mr. and Mrs. Karl Chappell (NaDeen) and children Scott, Karlene, Judy and Jill were overnight visitors recently with Mrs. Chappells parents, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Pay. Mr. and Mrs. Jack S. Pace of Pleasant Grove spent Sunday afternoon with his aunts, Rheta and Mabel Sperry. While here they also attended the open house honoring Edgar Park, an uncle of Mrs. Pace. Patricia Ann Zabrlskie Services Held Monday for Pat Zabriskie Services were conducted Mon- day at the Nephi Fourth Ward Chapel for Miss Patricia Ann Zabriskie, 21, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Zabriskie of Nephi. Services were conducted by Bishop Ralph E. Chase of the Nephi Fourth Ward. Miss Zabriskie died in Salt Lake City Thursday December 3. She was bom at Nephi December 21, 1948, daughter of Kenneth J. and Ruth Tolley Zabriskie. She had attended the Nephi schools. She was an operator at the Carosel Beauty Shop in Salt Lake City. Survivors are her parents of Nephi; two sisters and a brother: Mrs. Allen (Terrie) Kay of - Pleasant Grove, Mrs. Richard (Joleen) Higley of Granada Hills, California and Kenneth Zabriskie, Nephi. Services Held L. Jay Lowry Funeral services were held at Manti December 1 for Lester Jay Lowry, husband of Jennie Howard Lowry, former Nephi lady. Mr. Lowry died at the Utah Valley Hospital November 27. Bom at Manti February 8, 1902, he was son of John Lawrence and Anna Jensen Lowry. He married ElVira Danielson in Ealt Lake City October 27, 1924 and she died March 13, 1946. He married Jennie Howard June 14, 1948. Survivors are his widow of Manti; a son and four daughters: Dale J. Lowry, Kearns; Mrs. Willis A. (Marjorie) Poulson, Redmond; Mrs. John D. (Maxine) Howe, Santa Maria, Calif., Charlotte and Michelle Lowry, Manti. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Lowry was a farmer and stockman and an active member of the LDS Church. He also was active in civic affairs, having recently been elected South Sanpete Precinct Justice of the Peace. Mr. and Mrs. Denzil Jensen of Rexburg, Idaho and Mrs. Charlotte Hanson of Blackfoot, Idaho visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Greenhalgh. The three couples met with other family members: Mr. and Mrs. Dean Howard of Mills; Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Collett of Ogden, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Penney of Meadow, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nixon of Logan, Ivan Howard, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Garrett, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Stephenson and Mr. and Mrs. William D. Howard, all of Nephi, at Manti to attend the funeral services for Jay Lowry, husband of Jennie Howard Lowry. Mr. and Mrs. Greenhalgh returned to Manti on Friday and stayed overnight with Mrs. Lowry and daughters Charlotte Anna and Michelle. SO Free Matinee for Former Nephi Kiddies Saturday Banker Dies; Come on, Kids, theres going to be a big free matinee on Saturday, December 12th at the Venice Theatre Mrs. JoAnn Tolley, chairman of the Retail Trades Committee of the Nephi Chamber of Commerce, says that all kiddies of the area are invited. The films will roll at 1:30 p.m. promptly. Manager Dick Foote of the Venice has line up a Science Fiction movie rated G for general aoudiences for the Saturday presentation. He also has lined up some cartoon feaures for the free matinee program. In addition to the big free matinee, several merchants of Nephi are to present special gifts in their stores sometime Saturday as an extra bonus for shopping in Nephi. All tickets for league games are reserved seats and a good selection will be on sale. Hamlet at JHS The Brigham Young Univer- sity Touring Reperatory Theatre will present Shakespeares great tragedy, Hamlet at the Juab High School on Wednesday, December 16 at 9:30 a.m. Of all the plays written by Shakespeare, Hamlet has enjoyed the greatest popularity. It was a success when it was first performed, prorably about 1600, and it has had constant revivals through the centuries. This play has been translated into many languages, and it is to theatre - goers familiar throughout the world. s Shakespeare portrays Hamlet, he is an Elizabethan, adapted to the requirements of dramatic fashion. Such is Shakespeares genius in the portrayal of character, that every genera-atio- n can see in Hamlet and in the other major figures in the play universal qualities that persist from age to age. In the title role of Hamlet will be Marik Stabler, a sophomore majoring in dramatic arts. He has had experience in such other productions as Much Ado Man for All About Nothing, Seasons and Lute Song and plans to become a drama critic. Julie Rai Benham is in the role of Ophelia, Hamlets interest. Julie is a dramatic arts major from Phoenix, Arizona. She has been active in theatre and has just completed a season of summer stock in New York. An admission fee of 50c will be charged to cover expenses. ic Anti-Chri- st Mrs. Burton Awaits Honor Open house Saturday will honor Mrs. May Pexton Burton on her 90th birthday anniversary. The family invites relatives and friends to call at the Juab Stake House between 3 and 6 p.m. Mrs. Burton was bom in Nephi December 9, 1880. She was married to Thomas H. Burton January 14, 1903 at the Salt Lake Temple. Judge Burton died in 1913. Mrs. Burton attended the Juab Stake Academy as a young lady and remembers Dr. Karl G. Maeser visiting the school as superintendent of Church schools. Active in the L.D.S. church throughout her life time, she began her church work at an early age as organist for the North Ward Primary. She also served as organist for the Sunday School and for the ward. She served as secretary of the Stake Relief Society and as president of the YWMIA. During most of her adult life, she has served as a Relief Society visiting teacher. Mrs. Burton has been active in civic affairs as a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and as a member of the Ladies Literary Club for 51 years. In 1958 she was nominated as Mother of the Year by the Federated Womens Clubs of Nephi. She is mother of six children: Dr. Marcus H. Burton, Clarence G. (Hy) Burton and Lee Clark Burton, all of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Glen (Florence) Worthington, Logan; Mrs. Clem F. (Blanche) Hesse, Yuma, Arizona and Dr. Alma P. Burton, Orem. She also numbers among her posterity 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. A no gifts, please request has been made. Brother of Nephi Lady Hews Briefs Died Monday, Dec. 7 Dale Bailey, Brigham Young University senior from Nephi, has been honored with a special award from Chevron In receiving Oil Company. Chevron the Accounting Scholarship for this year, Bailey has been recognized for his outstanding record at the BYU. An unrestricted grant has also been given to the Accounting Department at the University by Chevron. Dale is son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse A. Bailey of NephL Mrs. Trilba Jones received word Monday of the death of her brother, Charles Allen, of Portland, Oregon. He died of a heart attack on Monday, Dec. 7 at Portland, at age 70. He is survived by his widow, Ardella Allen, a son, Martell and a daughter Joyce, all of Other brothers and Portland. sisters surviving are Dan Allen of Provo, Owen Allen of Salt Lake City, Patra Taylor of Loa, Grace Smoot of Richfield and Ruth Colman of Teasdale. Impressive funeral services were conducted Wednesday at d the Nephi Ward Chapel for Paul Eastwood Booth, 72, former manager of the First Mr. Security Bank at Nephi. Booth died Friday, December 4 at Heber City of natural causes. Bishop Milton T. Harmon of the Nephi First Ward conducted the services. Mr. Booth was born at Nephi August 19, 1898, a son of John Albert and Jane Carter Booth. He was employed by the First National Bank of Nephi, and later by the Commercial Bank and its successor First Security Bank at the Nephi office. He transferred to Heber City in 1960, and retired a few years ago. He recently had been doing special work for the bank at Heber City. He had resided In Salt Lake City for several years. Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints, he had served for several years as Juab Stake Clerk prior to his moving from the area. He also had served as a ward clerk, and was a member of the First Ward Bishopric, serving as a counselor to Bishop William Paxman. He also had served in many other positions throughout his lifetime. He was an ordinance worker at the Manti LDS Temple for several years while residing in Nephi. He married Flora Porter in 1917, and she died in 1919. He married Harriett Lucille Forrest February 8, 1923 at the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died June 30, 1960. He married Lola Caz-iJensen April 18, 1962 at Los Angeles, California. Survivors are his widow of Salt Lake City; one son: E. Forrest Booth, Salt Lake City; two daughters: Mrs. Russell (Beverly) Walker of Mapleton, and Mrs. D. E. (Sharee) Jensen of Paul, Idaho; two step children: Mrs. Robert (Deliene) Von Der Lohe and Gordon I. Jensen, both of Los Angeles. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Burial at the Vine Bluff cemetery at Nephi was directed by Anderson Funeral Home. First-Secon- Juab High will have four league games beginning on Friday, January 14 when Gunnison plays on the Juab floor. Menhi Area Mr. and Mrs. Frank Greenhalgh returned to Greenriver on Monday where they will remain for the week again with LaMars family. Although a formal search has been discontinued, the fences will remain across the river for some time and family members of the three families will keep a watch. Friends in the area continue to go on the river each day although there is little hope of recovering the bodies as the winter months continue. Mrs. Schwartz was mother of Mrs. Ray D. (Elda) Tolley of Nephi. Friends may call at the Rigby Mortuary at Payson Thursday prior to services. at as Two Receive Golden Awards at Layton Mr. and Mrs. Richard W. Pace recently received the Master M Man and Golden Gleaner awards presented to them by the Layton Stake YMMIA superintendent and YWMIA president. Mr. Pace is a native of Nephi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pace. He served a mission in the West Central States. Mrs. Pace is daughter of Reed E. Jones and Norma R. Jones of Payson. At the present time Mr. Pace is serving as a member of an Eiders Quorum presidency, and Mrs. Pace is activity counselor in the YWMIA. Mr. Pace is an industrial arts instructor at Layton High School. er Services Held for Son Of Nephi Couple Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Anderson Funeral Home for Joel Charles Clinger, 30, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Clinger of Nephi Mr. Clinger died in California of natural causes. He was bom June 28, 1940 at Salt Lake City, a son of Howard R. and Laura Hansen Clinger. He had been employed in California as a deputy adviser at the Corona, California Rehabilitation Center for the past five years. Burial at the Vine Bluff cemetery was directed by Anderson Funeral Home. Affend Services for Relative in Idaho A representative of the Social Security Administration will be at the Juab County Courthouse on Monday, December 14, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon where he will meet with residents of the area having questions on Social Security. Mrs. La villa Bird, Lawrence and Reid Bird vvere in Newdale, Idaho on November 30 to attend joint funeral services for Brian Hymas and Scott Schwed-imaBrian was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hymas (Melba Bird) and a great grandson of Lavilla Bird. The boys and a friend, Rex Peterson, were victims of asphyxiation at a cabin near Macks Inn in Idaho. They were on a snow mobile trip and were staying in a cabin where gas fumes claimed their lives. Mr. Schwediman was an uncle of the Hymas boy. They were here for the open house honoring Mrs. Hawkins parents, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Holman. Mrs. Delta Hedberg spent the Thanksgiving holidays in Salt Lake City at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Don E. Jones and family and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Jarrett and family. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hamilton and children of Sunnyside spent Thanksgiving and the week end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. R.
