Show Teachers, School Board Agree on Salaries Contracts will be mailed to teachers of the Juab School District within a few days, according to Superintendent Ralph W. Menlove, following the approval on Monday evening of a proposed salary schedule and approval on Tuesday by the Juab Education Association. Leonard Trauntvein, Mrs. Evelyn Lomax and Charles Mellor form the executive committee of the JEA. exclusive of the Salary Increases normal Increment differential will be 22 per cent This figure, with the Increments, will bring to 3.8 per cent the increase of funds for teaching costs In the District, Supt Menlove stated. "We realize that this increase does not keep pace with many districts of the state salarywlse, but every available dollar was utilized in making the salary proposal" Mr. Menlove pointed out. Teachers with a Bachelor degree will have a beginning salary of $5750.00 in the district, according to the approved salary schedule, and this will increase In 11 Increment steps to a top of $8280.00. Teachers with the Bachelor degree plus 25 quarter hours will start at $5980.00, and in the 11 steps attain top salary of $8510.00. With hours above the Bachelor degree, teachers will receive $6210.00 starting and in the 11 increment steps reach top salary of $8740.00. Those holding Master degrees will begin at $6440.00, and in 12 increment steps be at a top salary of $9200.00, according to the schedule. Mr. Mrs. Parkin Home Affer Europe Tour Mr. and Mrs. John H. Parkin returned home recently after a three-week- s tour of Europe. Mr. Parkin was awarded a tour of Madrid and Mar-belSpain, Geneva Switzerland and Berlin Germany in a Ford Sales contest . In Madrid, side tours were taken to Toledo and Escorial. In Marbella, tours were taken to the high mountain village, Mijas and the Cave of Nerjaalso and the intriguing city of Granada. Mr. and Mrs. Parkin report that Geneva, with its high mountains and scenic beauty was most enjoyable. They visited the LDS mission home and attended evening services with the Elders. In Germany a tour of East Berlin proved most interesting. Mr. and Mrs. Parkin extended their trip one week and visited In Manchester they England. located two aunts of Mrs. Parkin, her mothers youngest and oldest sisters. Mrs. Parkin had visited with these aunts many years ago. These relatives took them to visit places where her parents attended school, church and were employed. After the happy reunion they traveled on to London and visited the most well known and interesting places. Durham was chairman of Dr. Durham resides, the program committee as far as we know, in Southern California. A. E. Smith, then County Agent, was chairman of the advertising committee and A. B. Gibson was on the committee. Mrs. T. H. G. Parkes, now residing in the Northwest with her daughter, is the only remaining member of the invitations committee. Wilson Glazier, now Chamber of Commerce secretary was a parade committe member, and Ida Parkes (Belliston) was a member of Deon Booth and Roscoe A. the committee. Grover, members of the program committee, and Will L. Hoyt, on the decorations committee still are also with us. Presenting Witnesses Monday for In Fifth District Trial Leon Howard Funeral services were held on Monday at the Juab Stake House (Nephi Third Ward Chapel) for Leon Merle Howard, Mr. Howard died at the 66. family residence Thursday, June 11 of natural causes. Bishop K. J. Sperry of the Nephi Third Ward conducted the services. Mr. Howard was bom March 13, 1940 at Nephi, a son of George R. and Martha Alice Park Howard. He married Zola Allred Jones February 7, 1933, and the marriage later was solemnized at the Manti LDS Temple. Mr. Howard was a former employee of the U. S. Forest Service and had been a fanner and stockman. He was an Elder in the Nephi Third Ward. Survivors are his widow, Zola Howard of Nephi; a stepson, Don E. Jones of Salt Lake City; four grandchildren; four brothers and a sister: Earl R., Theodore (Bob) and Byron G. Howard, all of Nephi; his twin brother, Leslie P. Howard of Mrs. Mytrle H. Santaquin; Simmons of Whittier, Califorr, Mat T. nia; and a Howard of Nephi. Lunt and family. While there she attended high school graduation where her grandson, Floyd Lunt, was a graduate. He received a scholarship and will attend school at Casper, Wyoming. Mrs. Richard C. Lunt accompanied her home and visited for several days in Nephi. Prosecution witnesses have continued to be presented In the Fifth Judicial District trial of James Clark Redford, who is charged with the murder of Ann Levanger several months ago. CanComdidates for the four-yea- r missioner position on the Republican party are Richard G. Foote, manager of the Venice Theatre, and Richard Brough, manager of the Richard Brough Truck Sales. Mr. Foote and Mr. Brough were close in their delegate vote, but neither received the 70 per cent majority. Other candidates to be certified by the Republican convention include: Golden R. Senate Sherman Lloyd, House of Representatives candidate were at the convention and each spoke briefly to the delegates. ar Set Tonight The Silver Spurs, Spokane, exhibition Washington teen-ag- e dancing troupe, will present a program at the Juab High School gymnasium tonight (Thursday, June 18) at 8 p.m. Proceeds will go to the Nephi Fourth Ward Building Fund. The Silver Spurs, directed by Red Henderson, are nationallk known as a high school Western and Folk Exhibition dance group. They have made tours, appeared on NBC and CBS TV shows. When touring, the Silver show Spurs present a two-hoin beautiful authentic costumes of Cowboy Squares, Mexican, Early American and English dances and featured numbers representing many lands. Sorbe of Levan, a student at Utah State University, recently began his summer employment as assistant manager of Bryce Lodge Bryce Canyon, Utah. at 0. the truck was registered to the Little Audrey Transportation Company of Fremont, Nebraska, and was driven by William Charles Harsman of Omaha. The diesel truck was loaded with turkeys from the Moroni Processing Plant. As a precaution to driving the cattle up the canyon to place them on the Forest for the summer, a pickup preceeded the herd by approximately 600 feet, according to Trooper Hard- - is Investigation continuing today into an accident which killed 12 cows and five calves most of them instantly Tuesday morning in Salt Creek canyon when a heavily loaded, westbound transport truck plowed into the herd. A passenger car, driven by Joseph Sterner of Manti had slowed as it approached the herd, and it was reported by Trooper Harding that the truck had gone to the right side of the highway to pass the car just prior to hitting the animals. Mr. Reed, who owned a majority of the animals killed, said that the cows were conservatively valued at $300.00 each, and that the calves were worth "at least $100 each. "Greatest loss Mr. Reed stated, is in the potential of the breeding stock over several years ahead. Trooper Harding stated that at least one sign on the upper end of the canyon shows the highway as a "designated stock trail. The accident occured Immediately west of the area where a cut was made through the hill, and where, on the right side, going up the canyon, a portion of the hill remains. The spot is just above the old plaster mill site. Sergeant A. Rex Hill of the Utah Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation. The Nephi Fire Department was called and used the pumper truck to wash the highway of debris and spilled diesel fuel. Jim Reed was nearest to the herd when the truck hit, and also was nearest to any individual being hurt when a piece of flying glass cut into his boot Richard Daley left by plane Monday for Virginia. He has enlisted in the Marine Corps and will receive 10 weeks trainIning there. Mrs. Daley (Linda gram) and Mrs. Mathew Daley accompanied him to the air port In Salt Lake City. Nephi News Briefs Mr. and Mrs. Max Orme have as their guests for several weeks, their son in law and Andaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Max derson (Nancy Orme) of Evansville, Indiana and their six children. Other visitors at the Orme home over the week end were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Steele of Cincinatti, Ohio, recent converts to the LDS church. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Steele attended sessions at the Manti and Salt Lake Temples during the past week. Mrs. Earl Howard attended funeral services In Ephraim on Saturday for her aunt, Sarah Augusta Sorenson. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Foote (Elnora Carter) Nephi Couple to be Honored On Golden Wedding Date An open house honoring Mr. and Mrs. Chester F. Foote on their golden wedding anniversary will be given by their children on Sunday June 28, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center at 48 North Main, Nephi. An invitation is extended for all relatives and friends to attend between 3 and 6 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Foote are parents of six children, one daughter having died in infancy. Their children are Mrs. Max (Melba) Chester Springville; Knight, Laurence Foote, Taylorsville; Mrs. Dick (Donna) Bailey, Ephraim; Glen L. Foote, Provo and Mrs. Charles K. (Judy) Jones of Kearns. Posterity of Mr. and Mrs. Foote also includes 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Foote has been active In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da-y Saints, having been President of the Ward Relief Society: a counselor and work leader in the Relief Society. She has served in the Primary as secretary and treasurer, and is a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She is a member of the Veterans of World War I Auxiliary, and was the first president of the Nephi unit of the American Legion Auxiliary. Mr. Foote has been Commander of the American Legion, Nephi Post No. 1, and helped organize and was first director of the Senior Citizens. He has served as secretary of the First Quorum of Elders, and as an advisor in the Aaronic PriesthoodAdult program. He is a Home Teacher in the Nephi First Ward.
