Paxman, Principal of the Seminary. The graduation exercises will begin at 2 pm. at the Juab Stake House, and the general public is invited to attend. The graduation class Includes a large group of students who have completed the requirements for the normal three- - ops of the stake. Continued on page eight ar Juab Stake Conference SPEAK OUT Scheduled for Sunday All members of Juab Stake are Invited and orged to attend Quarterly Conference on Sunday at 10 a.m., according to President R. Roscoe Garrett of Juab Stake, who announced the date and tings schedule this week. Sne Page 2 The conference will oopen Saturday a t7 p.m. with a special leadership meeting at the Stake House. In keeping with the recently inaugurated plan there will be only one session on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. Sacrament meetings will be held in all wards of the Stake at regular times Sunday evening, Livetock Show Successful President Garrett stated. For the special Leadership Meeting on Saturday evening, special talks have been assigned by President Garrett in accordance with the meeting, outline from the presiding authorities. President Garrett stated that the following are expected to be in atendance: Stake Presidency, High Council, Stake Clerks; Bishoprics and Ward Clerks; Melchizedek Priesthood quorum presidencies group leaders and secretaries; Stake auxiliary superintendencies, presidencies and board members; Ward auxiliary superintendencies and presidencies; general secretaris of Aaronic Pristhood, both youth and adult, and all other members of ward councils. President Garrett pointed out that although there will be no visitor representing the general authorities, the conference is expected to be outstanding. At the Sunday session, several talks have been assigned in addition to the major talk by President Garrett and remarks by President J. Barres Jenkins. Business of the conference will Include sustaining of a new superintendency for one of the stake auxiliary organizations, and a new Executive Secretary in the recently created stake position. The Levan Ward Choir, with Lawrence Brough as director and Fern Wankier as accompanist will furnish the conference special music. Conference Junior Sunday School will be under the direction of the Nephi Third Ward. I W Sixty youth from FFA and clubs participated in the spring livestock show held on Ji 1 Monday under sponsorship of the Kiwanis Club of Nephi. The livestock show opened with a livestock judging contest. Winners of the contest, in which the participants judged seven classes of livestock, were: first, Brent Dailey, 341 points; Mary Winn, 319 points and third, i Gary Garrett with 317 points division. We herewith apologize to Warner and Lua Stephenson for failing to publish one of the important items for our community and area: Robert L Stephenson, native son of Nephi, has been called by the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints to be president of a mission, the exact assignment to be announced at a later date. Mr. Stephenson has been active in the Church for many years; serving as a missionary, as a High Councilor and as a Ward Bishop. He and his wife and family will truly be missionaries as they go to their ne con- tinue. Dr. Cazier is a native of Nephi, a son of the late Gerald Cazier, and Mrs. Edna J. Cazier. He is a graduate of the University of Utah and earned his doctorate at the University He joined the of Wisconsin. USU faculty as an Instructor in history in 1960 and advanced to the rank of associate professor. He spent the 1967-6- 8 academic year at New York University on an Academic Internship of the American Council on Education. On his return to USU he was named assistant to the president. Duane Sperry. Dogs have been molesting sheep and have killed several in the outlying area surrounding Nephi. Sheriff Sperry urges dog owners if they to keep them value their dogs In any way locked up during the night hours. Dogs are valuable, but the sheep are valuable, too, and the law prohibits the dogs from running loose during the night hours, although some owners of dogs apparently dont care too much about the law. They were judged in fitting and showmanship in three groups, according to the age of the exhibitor. It is being display-- , ed all around the Union Pacific System. will be in Nephi on Monday, May 19, and will be open to the piiblic from 10 a.m. to 7 pm. It wil be on ,the team track near the depot, third west between center ' f ad first north. ' The train consists of two full size duplicates of the ; locoatlve 119 and the original Golden Spike locomotives and four vintage railroad cars all mounted on 'Jupiter track on flat cars. The antique equipment was loaned to Union Pacific by Paramount Pictures for the Golden Spike celebration and was faithfully restored by Union 'Pacific crews for public exhibit. The locomotives face each other as the originals did 100 years ago at Promontory. '! Nebo FFA chapter did more than carry on tradition" last Friday when they walked away with nearly every award in the State Farm Mechanics contest at Team members Logan. George Jackson, Kent Carter and Paul McPherson topped the state. George was high Individual with 305 points; Kent was second high individual with 276 points and Paul scored 263 and this was just four points short of giving the team all three individual awards. Team score was 101 points higher than the second place team from Uintah with Spanish Fork placing third. A tool box and 80,00 was won by the local chapter team. First place award, an arc welder could not be received by the local Chapter because of winning it so many times in the past. It went to the second place team. This is the third consecutive year that local teams have won the contest, and the sixth time In seven years. The meat judging team, consisting of Russell Mangelson, Max Williams and Randy Greenhalgh placed second In the state. Russell was high Individual of the local team and sixth high in the state. Jackson. Mrs. Jackson died at an Ogden hospital Thursday of natural causes. (Bishop Ralph E Chase of the Nephi Fourth Ward conducted the services. Mrs. Jackson, a member of the LDS Church, was bom in Bradford, England, August 16, 1885, a daughter of Edmund and Anne Tomlinson Lee. She was married to Leon (Lynn) Nephi Jackson at Nephi December 20, 1916. Mr. - Jackson - died October 9, 1961. con- On the honor roll from East Juab County are Earl L. Other activities will be planned by the officers and will be for all members in the county. 4-- 4-- Services Held Mona Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Mona Ward chapel for Mrs. Ruby Thomson Summers, 78, widow of William H. Summers. Mrs. Summers died at the Juab County Hospital Friday of natural causes. Bishop Marc E. Vest of the Mona Ward conducted the services. 1965. , Mrs. Summers was an active member of the LDS Church. She was a resident of Salt Lake City until 1946 when she and her family moved to Mona. She was an active member of the Mt. Nebo Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. & Elgin Gardner, Nephi Abraham James and Christina Sinclair Bowers Sr. He married Beryl Bigler July 5, 1907 at Nephi, the marriage later being somenized at the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. Mr. Bowers was a member of the Fourth Quorum of Eld- 4-- Mrs. Ruby T. Summers 24, Ronald Greenhalgh of Nephi was among the interested former railroad men attending the at Golden Spike centennial Promentory last Saturday. Mr. Greenhalgh was accompanied by his son. Glade, and Glade's three sons. They were highly impressed with the ceremonies at the point. Mr. Bowers was bom at Nephi October 26, 1855, a son of Burial will be at the Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi. Mrs. Sumers was bom October 29, 1890 in Salt Lake City, a daughter of Orson Spencer and Martha Ann Poll Thomson. She was married to William H. Summers on January 28, 1914 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Sumers died Sept. Prior to her retirement- - a few years ago, Mrs. Jackson was employed as a cook at the Juab County Hospital. For several years she was a cook . at the Nephi Cafe. Survivors are one son and one daughter: Harold Jackson of Nephi and Mrs. Monte (Marjorie) Bailey of Ogden. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Burial at the Vine Bluff cemetery was directed by Anderson Funeral Home.
