The girl and a companion were swimming In the lake, and one called for help. Mr. Barnes attempted to reach them, but was unable and sank in 14 feet of water, according to press reports. The girls reached shore safely. Mr. Barnes was bom at Fair-vie- w July 14, 1908, a son of Joseph W. and Inez Miner Barnes.
