This is the harsh conclusion of a study of vocational education released recently, sponsored by the American Council of Education. It warns that unless the nation's colleges and schools make a massive response to the need for more and far better technical training, the national economy and social structure will suffer irreparable damage. The excessive emphasis and prestige given to college preparatory curriculum, the study says, has caused the majority of youth who should fill the technical jobs in our society d to be in their training. The 184 page study was done by Gant Venn, former president of the Western States College of Colorado and now superintendent of schools in Wood County, West Virginia. Venn argues that vocational education has been harmed by the assumption that the best education for everyone is to go along the college track curriculum as far as he can.
