A cloudburst, coupled with lightning and thunder and in some areas of the valley hail, deposited some three-quarteof an inch of mo;sture in a period Tuesday noon and at the same time left many crops in the lower valley damaged seve.iy. County Agent Kay R. Bendixsen made a survey of crop damage Wednesday morning, and the greatest damage appears in the bottom area on a strip through the Dee Jarrett farm and extending through Grant Gerbers farm, Perry Hall farm, Ray Hall farm and Neil Brough farm. On the Jarrett farm. 30 acres of his 75 acres of sugar beets were "completely ruined by the hail which fell during the period of 12:55 and 1:30 p.m. Mr. Bendixsen stated that the storm has occurred early enough that the crop land can be utilized. It is difficult to put a dollar value on the loss" Luncheon County Agent Bendixsen statrs Set Postponed from two weeks ago because of conflicting Pool Opens; Lessons Ready the Merchants Meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 15, 1960, according to a decision reached Monday at the regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Nephi Chamber of Commerce. Tickets for the luncheon, at 1.35 per plate, will be available from members of the C. of C. board on Thursactivities, Luncheon ed. Additional storm damage occurred to some 100 acres of alfalfa, which was striped of foilage by the hail. This will have to be cut immeditely Mr. Bendixsen stated in order to utilize the crop, and to help the second crop. It also is reported that 820 turkey poults were killed during the hail storm. Mr. Bendixsen further pointed out that the storm extended only to a portion of the ridge, but the crop there was not in any way damaged. Wheat and other crops in the field were beat down, the wheat in some areas being striped, but the plants will recover, the County Agent pointed out. The Mona area was not in the storm path Tuesday noon, nor was Levan, 11 miles south of Nephi, but during Tuesday evening at about 7 p.m. a storm occurred at Mona with a "good half inch of rainfall occuring, Mr. Bendixsen said. No damage occurred from the Tuesday evening storm. There was slight soil movement in the southeast portion of Nephi, but no extensive damage by flood occurred. LeRoy Ostler displayed a block of hail throughout the business district Wednesday. The hail had occurred before the rain in the lower area, and had washed to the lower ground. The block was or so thick, with the hail ranging up to a quarter of an inch. The weather report as provided by Nephi City employees for the period shows .82 of an inch of rain falling.
