The official weather station at the Monticello Port of Entry recorded .39 inches of rain on August 6, but a measuring station in Monticello, just two miles west of the Port of Entry, measured well over a full inch. While summer rains are a welcomed addition to the area, San Juan County Fair officials will be watching the skies close- particularly Wednesday evening for the big outdoor performance of Country Western star Deana Carter. ly, Deana Carter performs in concert beginning at 7 p.m. at the San Juan County Fairgrounds. Carter is fresh off a performance on the NBC Today Show on August 6 and is making a beeline to San Juan County to perform in the fair. She recently released a CD which has been getting significant playtime throughout the nation. Her hits include Strawberry Wine, Did I Shave My Legs For This?, and We Danced Anyway. Carters opening act is J. Marc Bailey. The Fair began on cumbent mayor Scott Pehr-so- n or incumbent City Council-meSteve Young, Pete Steele, or Joel Palmer have filed for another term in office. Jeremy Hoggard and Burton Black have filed for the two available r positions on the Monticello City Council. In addition, Michael Martin and Felix Montano have filed for the r position on the single n four-yea- two-yea- Monticello City Council. Incumbents are seeking another term in office in Blanding as incumbent mayor Tony Turk and Councilmen Brian Bay-le- s and Keele Johnson have all filed for another term. In addition, Eric Grover has filed for Blanding City Council. There are four open positions on the Bluff Service District Board of Trustees. William Downy of Bluff, at the current time, is the only Bluff resident who has filed to run for the positions. The incumbents on the Board include Patrick McDermott, Linda Richmond, Liza Doran, and Linda Sosa. after- p.m. gler contest. Sporting events filled the weekend on August 5 and 6, s as the Rough Riders Race was held at the Bull Hollow Raceway and the Blue Mountain Roundup Rodeo had a two-da- y run at the Rodeo Grounds. Thunder storms brought rain to the events, but did little to quench the enthusiasm of fair participants. The fourth annual Four Corat Bull Holners Shoot-Ou- t low Raceway brought motorcycle enthusiasts and their fans from throughout the Four Corners region. The Blue Mountain Rodeo was presided over by Queen Kera Hatcher and Nicole Freestone and featured a number of local residents trying their hand at rodeo events. An open horse show was held August 9 and also the annual Monticello High School wrestlers Navajo Taco dinner.
