She was born in a log cabin in Bluff, Utah on May 7, 1917 to Lemuel Redd and Lovina Mickelson Redd. Virginia attended elementary school and high school in Montice1 o and Provo and later attended LDS Business - n h Hammond. The couple moved to Boulder, when Kenneth became a member of the faculty of the University of Colorado. Virginia was a highly skilled dressmaker and her creations were sold in retail shops.
