Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, July 16, 2003 - Page 24 Department is considering a get together, perhaps in August to make up for the lack of a 4th of July wing ding. Kicked around are the idea of calling it a Firemans Ball. How about the Not 4th of July party? A sad note is the passing of Charlene Bullock of Moab. She is the mother of Val Bradshaw. She passed away after a valiant fight with a long time illness. She was a frequent attendee of La Sal social functions and a friend to many here. Val called upon the ladies of La Sal to coordinate the Comings and goings in La Sal . Since most folks opted for the really old fashioned type of 4th of July observance -camping the in of cooi the social affairs. The Frost -Burtenshaw wedding is July 25. Come see how the Frosts decorate the wedding arch. The next evening will be the annual yaall come Pioneer cookout on the La Sals. Location is the Big Pasture below Hal Banes camp on the Dark Canyon Road. You cant miss it! (Famous last words!) The event was slated for that area last year but was rained out. Pray for the same, only more rain and lower in the Northern mountain 3 - FROM SIERRA LA SAL wedding by Maxine Deeter reception A couple of heads up for one week later seemed like an ideal occasion to catch up on missed visiting. A wedding celebration was hosted by the parents of the newly married Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Blankenagel on July 11. .The affair was an open house, which usually means dropping by for a few minutes when you can. But most folks lingered and visited and enjoyed the cool of the evening and generous portions of sumptuous strawberry shortcake or German chocolate cake. No, the cake with green frosting really wasnt made with jalapenos, even though you wouldnt put that past Mr. B. Weve recently endured several plagues. In evidence that night were gnats, which is unusual for our little corner of paradise. Bugs, big or little, are not usually a problem in La Sal. We never have many mosquitoes or gnats. Of course, we did have the cut worms turned moth flocks plague this year. Reports from those folks who went to the mountain on the 4th of July say the moths have now also migrated to the higher, cooler climes. Shannon Krist says it looked like something from a Stephen King novel. Others liken it to Hitchcocks The Birds only smaller versions. The lawn under which the reception was held looked like DeAnn Price furnished. Just bring you dusty, Small class sizes e and perhaps most son-of-a-g- comfortable lawn chair, a good appetite and make sure the visiting with folks vocal chords are well tuned.
