The World Atlatl Association welcomes anyone who is interested in the ancient hunting weapon, the atlatl - or spear throwing stick. This weapon was used all over the world in prehistoric times. The competition will be held at Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum on May 30 -June 1, 9 a. in. - 4 p.m. Come and learn how to hunt the wooly Mammoth! All ages are welcome. An exhibit of Navajo Rugs from the Durango Collection at the Center for Southwest Studies and the Two Gray Hills Generations collection may be viewed from May 3 to Sept. 1, 2003. The resident of Monticello has enrolled at the Motorcycle Me- chanics Institute (MMI) in MMI-Phoeni- to Larceval plans x. start coursework on Septem- ber 8, 2003, and will train to become a professional motorcycle technician. MMI produces highly technicians trained, entry-leve- l for the motorcycle industry. Programs provide the technical information, practical dem- onstrations and hands-o- n training required by industry customers. The institute is supported and endorsed by the five major motorcycle manufacturers: American Honda Motor Co., Inc; American Suzuki Motor Motor Co.; Kawasaki Motors Corp., Corp.; n Harley-Davidso- USA; and Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A. These companies provide MMI with educational training materials and products. MMI is owned by Universal Technical Institute, Inc. And they wore them proudly all the rest of the day. Sporting second place medals were Anthony Sicard and Eddie Martinez. Eddie1 actually had an undefeated morning. Rick Wilcox, fresh from a first place win in Dove Creek the Saturday before, brought home a third place medal while Tanner Wharton and Stettson Deeter earned fourth You can bet these young men will be back at it next year. They are now hooked. Gotta carry on that La Sal, on the mat tradition. place medals. Not participating Saturday was Geraldo Martinez. He was sidelined by a recent close encounter with the surgeons scalpel. He is now short one pair of tonsils! The potluck starts at 7 p.m. (6:30 for those prone to function on La Sal Standard Time which should be really interesting. The recent time change has us all fouled up!). Bring a dish to share and your eating utensils. Promises to be another fun, La Sal evening. The exact date of the Spring Fling is still up in the air. Could be Saturday, could be Friday. Whatever, mark the dates of May 9 and 10 for the annual La Sal Spring Fling. Better just pencil it in for now. But, I promise, a real, definite date is coming your way very soon. At least, Im pretty sure, hopefully.
