There are many who care lege of Eastern Utah-Sa- n about the growth of the school for future generations to attend the College. The master plan for the College has slated a new building for student services. This will make available new options for the students and a new library. Our College library is to a critical stage. In our last accreditation, the library was listed as inadequate. It went on to state that we have used what space we have very wisely, and we have. Next year will be the first that I will be forced to buy only what I have room for at the library. There are many shortcomings of our current library: We need a quieter library atmosphere away from hallways and classroom noises, more study space (we have 1 seat for every 56 students), more book space and movable shelf problems (we are now using the bottom shelves where patrons must get on their knees to read call numbers), the current shelving divides the library in two and blocks the students in back from getting out, patrons must wait to get into the shelves until others are done, more room (we are at a nondevelopment stage where space dictates what I buy rather than what is best for core curriculum, we only have 1,140 square feet of space (most peoples houses are bigger than our library, Snow College has 28,072 square feet of space), we need more computers (ratio, 1 computer for every 101 students), needs to be handicap accessible (if someone in a wheelchair comes to visit our library, we must move furniture to get them in), better ventilation (it can get 100 degrees in the library), and last on this long list is: we need an accessible checkout & Wild Thomberrys 630 Maid in Manhattan 830 (PO (Po (PG) Through Feb 6 Spy Kids II to) Jan 31 - Feb 6 Wild Call for times Thomberrys 630 Two Weeks Notice (PO 830 (psi Closed Sundag 14351587302 We specialize in helping people establish good credit MESA ,OANS Christmas bills piling up? We got left out again and I want to put pressure on our elected officials to move our librarystudent services building high on that list. I was also told that our U.S. Congressional Leaders could attach it to a bill that they are working to pass. Maybe they can put more pressure on Utah State to put us higher on a list. The Monticello, (ISSN0894-3273- ) San Juan Record is a member of the Utah Press Association and National Newspaper Association Tournaments are possible Dear Editor, In the January 15 Son Juan Record, we read the comments from Principal Dennis Crane to the City Council of Monticello. We believe there is a perception problem here. Principal Crane points to a very bleak problem as far as the high school helping any of the business in Monticello. I believe that Mr. Crane should be very aware that the business and a few individuals who donate to Monticello High School are a large source of the income for activities. As business owners, we donate several times a year to high school activities. We the business people do appreciate all of the local support that we do get and because of that we can help. Mr. Crane talked about regional tournaments. We ask what about a tournament during the regular season. When I was coaching, I put on a four team tournament for two days. That way, we kept people from the other teams in town. I had no problem getting teams to come. In fact, I had to turn away three teams. The following year, I had plans for an eight team tournament. The tournament was great for the kids, the gym was large enough and the businesses got a little back. I did have to devote an extra weekend to the girls Mr. Crane was asked about invitational tournaments. He said that the coaches would be putting in unpaid time. This is not true, all the coaches are paid. Other people offer to help with their free time. Maybe when Crane hires a coach, he should ask, Do you have time enough for our kids? A coach from Enterprise told me that the only reason he coaches is for the kids. I hope that is why all of our coaches are here. If that is so, then another weekend isnt so bad. Crane talked about teams being loyal to certain tournaments and that is true, but there are many teams looking for a tournament. I had to turn down three teams the first year I hosted a tournament. I ask the City council to ask the couches if they will give a little more time and bring two-da- y tournaments to Monticello each year. Please help the businesses and we will continue to help you.
