Dear Sirs: Very seldom do I make'lhe effort to speak out on issues, which go deep to my heart. After reading the article in the March 19 Tribune, I find it the appropriate thing to do. Those roads have been there for many years, in fact some probably go back into our his- tory far enough that most people can not remember when they were built. And, I know that those environmental wackos distort the numbers, because people like me dont speak out often enough. I want to tell you that I have lived in Utah most of my life, and of all of my acquaintances, friends and family, I know of only one person who supports wilderness (and he is not a Utah native). So, I know most people in this state support what you are trying to do in San Juan County. It is just that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and people like me dont speak up enough. I am enclosing a $20 bill. I know that is not much, but I hope it will help a little bit to keep our public lands public. The names of all the people who volunteered are too numerous, and we would forget a few, but we would like to mention some. The San Juan County Road Department, 14-ye- ar UDOT, San Juan County Sheriff office, Monticello City Po- lice, Utah State Highway Patrol, Monticello EMTs, Empire Electric, Monticello Lions Club, Boy Scouts and countless others helped make everything run smoothly. Without exception, the contestants were very impressed with the community support and the number of local volun- teers along with the unique and beautiful race course.
