Dear Editor: About ten years ago, Navajo n Oshley, a figure in Blanding, died after leaving a piece of early community history on a series of tapes. He talked about the growth of the town, the development of the Westwater community, his relations with Navajos and Utes of the Four Corners area, the posts at which he traded, and his interaction with many of the livestock owners he worked for. This important manuscript is nearing completion, but there is a real need for pictures to accompany it. If you have any photos of either Navajo or Ute peoples in the 1940s or earlier, Indian people working in the livestock industry, the Westwater community, or of Navajo Oshley, in particular, would you please contact Bob 1 McPherson at (ext. 678-263- 1 140 or at work) (evenings). well-know- Dear Editor: I am pleased to see that Mr. Walt Dabney wants to extend the boundaries of Canyon-land- s National Park. Many tourist dollars are spent in our beautiful county due to the fact that the land here is unlike any other in the world. These people do not come to San Juan County to see roads, they come to see the areas untouched by roads. Once a road is created, it cannot be erased. I am excited that Mr. Dabney wants to save land for future generations to admire, untouched by the nu- merous roads that dot our Earth. Does this make me a tree hugging environmentalist whacko? No, it does not. I am simply a poor college student who does what he can to get by. And I dont judge other people and poke fun at them, especially when I have never met them. I am fortunate to live in an area where people appreciate their natural surroundings as opposed to being forced to ap- preciate urban sprawl. We must protect our surroundings or forever lose them to greed and development. Sincerely, Nathan Sosa Bluff Correction 1 Last week, we reported that eight of ten applicants for the vacant San Juan County Clerk position were related to people on the selection committee. Actually, eight of the 17 se- lection committee members were related to at least one applicant. We apologize if we caused additional confusion to an already confusing situation. 16 S Main Easter Sunday is April 4 Celebrate the beauty of Easter with Teleflora's Tulips in Crystal Bouquet.
