LeGrand is coordinating the Durango leg of the 1998 Mystical Arts of Tibet Sacred Music Sacred Dance tour. The tour features monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery in India. Founded in 1416 in Lhasa, Tibet, the monastery was the largest monastery in the country. It was forced to close in 1959, after a Tibetan uprising against the Chinese government, which had exacted a hostile takeover of the country starting in 1949. Thousands of Tibetans fled the country, and some 250 monks managed themselves in to escape and southern India.
