Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday June 10, 1998 - Page 20 from Seniors by Nell Dalton "Two, four, six, eight Whom do we appreciate ?" Not someone whos always late. Should have written this a week ago today But this wind nearly blew my senses away The wind gets blamed for everything In Monticello in the Spring! The seniors had to keep busy in May to keep up with the wind. The way June is starting out, its a good thing they have a busy schedule this month. No one showed up for Movie Day on the 8th. Maybe we can get a rerun of Dragon Heart on a later date. A bakers dozen enjoyed Souper Supper and Bingo on the 15th. Lucilles good soup was chicken noodle and there were lots of tasty complimentary dishes. Bar- bara Trask won the most prizes and the privilege of making soup on June 12. The trip to Moab on the 20th drew quite a bit of interest with eight going on the bus and Phyllis Applegarth joining them for lunch and sightseeing. Guess what, it was windy, but down there they enjoyed the breeze as a respite from the heat. Health Day was canceled in May due to the Centers being used for meetings. Fourth Friday Social on the 29th was attended by 21 lucky people. After dining royally on Center-frie- d chicken and lots of fixins, we were privileged to listen to Ray Jarvis play selections on the piano; J.J. Steffen on the harmonica; and Shirley Steffen singing live with her brother on a recording. Shirleys brother, Carl Smith, is a renowned coun- try and western singer. Shirley is a renowned western horseshoe pitcher. They sing well together. From the sound of this article, the Seniors werent too busy in May. Add to the above seven super lunches, topped off by a delicious roast beef birthday dinner on the 28th and you know that, at least, they were kept busy eating. You know what they say, Eat, drink and be merry. There may not come another day. Still Taking Appointments Still Open the 60 years ago Monticello Municipal Water, Power and Light has difficulties. Water safety is not the concern as life guards will be on duty at all times, but the campaigners want to see a time set aside when a few, past the age of 21, can swim. Needing the exercise and a sincere desire to improve what gravity has accomplished for natures distribution of solid matter, mothers are in favor of swimming without a startling contrast with teenage Marilyn Monroes. Commissioner Harold Young shows a record book he found when tearing down the old school house. It is a record of the San Juan County School District starting in 1908. Over the years, there have been several efforts to develop a museum. All were unsucessful until May 6, 1963, when a group met to establish a museum board and worked diligently to develop plan and culminate it so the museum is now a reality. Nell Dalton is curator.
