Teachers announce early retirement By Spencer Holliday Several teachers at San Juan High will be retiring or quitting at the end of this year. Mr. Pincock, Miss Halliday, Mrs. Squires, Mrs. Ochoa, and Mrs Wilcox are changing careers. Principal Jim Harris is resigning his position, which will be handed over to Cathy Cosby. I am becoming a full time farmer and will enjoy milking the cows more than coming to school and listening to the students complain to me about the rotten milk in the cafeteria, Harris said. Mr. Pincock will be moving to Hawaii with his family, where they will manage a pineapple farm. Miss Halliday has signed a contract with the San Francisco 49ers to be their trainer and w ill live by the Golden Gate Bridge. Mrs. Squires and her new husband will be math teachers in El Salvador and begin working in July. Mrs. Ochoa will continue to live in Blanding, but will become the head director for the Bilingual Program in Toawoc. The replacements for those teachers will be alumni students who graduated from San Juan High School. Mr. Pincock will be replaced by Brad Burtenshaw who will return from his mission this summer. He will teach Algebra II, Geometry, and Calculus. Nani Kaluali will be taking Miss Hallidays position as volleyball and basketball coach, and she will teach Health Occupations, and Anatomy. It will be hard to find a replacement for Mrs. Squires because no one can teach and talk as fast as she can. Madlyn Bills, the aide to Mrs. Ochoa, will taking her classes. I know they will miss Thedas colorful language so I am going to practice my blue words all summer. Mrs. Wilcox, the journalism teacher, will be working at the Patio w here she will be the manager until September, then she will go to work as P.R. person for the Sierra Club.
