Show i 1997 - Page 12 THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday Novembers, What's neiv. By Mary Lou Mary Lou Hoggard 587-211- Vedas 4 Who of you can remember saying as a child, Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me?" A new study says that while siblings usually bear no hard feelings over all the choking and biting they inflict on one another, they do carry resentment and over name-callin- g other verbal ridicule. I remember coming home crying after two boys in my class called me Mary Lou Duckett. My aunt Gerd soothingly told me that people only tease those they really like". Strange as it seems, I have felt very loved ever since. Parents may think these are childish and put-dow- ns because they wouldnt hurt an adult, but when theyre hurled at a kid harmless by a sibling, they can really hurt. All children arent lucky enough to have an Aunt Gerd to soothe them. The family of the late Arah E. and Grace (Powell) Shumway gathered in St. George for a family reunion. The six children and their spouses enjoyed visiting and dining on delectables at various eating places. The highlight of the reunion was hearing the history of their mother Graces family that Keith Shumway put in book form. Shirley Redd comments that it turned out to be a genealogy reunion and it was just great." The children of Arah and Grace who attended are Keith, DeVar, Veda Pehrson enjoyed a visit from daughter Rita Bryant and granddaughter, Natsha of Salt Lake City. They attended the funeral of sister. Holyoak, of Moab. Myrtle Sheri Westcott of Orem attended the Region 13 Volleyball Tournament and enjoyed watching sister Al-li- e play her heart out. She had a lot of visiting to catch up on with her parents, Winn and Lorraine, and other family members and friends. John Peterson is no longer a resident at the Four Corners Nursing Home in Blanding, but has moved to Dove Creek, Colorado. He is being cared for in the home of A1 Marsh, who performs this service for those in need. A1 Rossatelli is in the St. Marys Hospital in Grand Junction. His family reports his condition is critical and he is in a coma, suffering an allergic reaction for reasons unknown. A1 has endured other medical problems in the past but this came as quite a surprise to his family and friends in this area. A Chillin Halloween house young at heart came dressed in a variety of costumes. Even Bat Girl" made her appearance. Residents the in swingbeds at San Juan Hos- pital enjoyed Sloppy Joes, chips, and all the trimmings at a Halloween Party. Everyone told favorite Halloween memories. It seems that the most popular prank to do back then was to tip over outhouses. As usual, Carolyn Austin Lyman, and other staff members played an important part in making the party a great sucGuy-mo- cess. A special thank U" to all of them.
