He speaks very well for a two year old; and he seems to enjoy the sounds of some words. I think that has been the fascination of his newly acquired noun; it is just plain fun to say. The two syllables are singsong; and they have a poetic quality to them. In fact, Fm not sure why our society has discarded this term in favor of the word donkey. He probably also enjoys seeing the reaction of the people to whom he says it. The other day, at the drive-u- p window of the bank, he was calling the tellers this unprintable term. I was completely embarrassed. His siblings were torn between mortification and amusement. I didnt dare look at the tellers to see their response. Of course, this isnt the first time weve dealt with this problem. It goes with the territory of raising kids. But the earlier the child talks, the harder it is to explain that some words are better left unsaid. When Benjamin was little, he seemed to like the word damn.
