Qualifying in the Historical paper division were 1st and Shelly Lyman Erin Miller 2nd. Shellys paper was on the role her grandfather Bart Lyman and the Lyman truck line played in mail delivery. Project division winners were Kayela Grover, Jay-lee- n Laws and Jared Palmer, 1st with a display on branding; Media winners were Kristi Johnson, 1st individual; Gwen Spotted Elk and Virginia Palmer, 1st, group presentation; and Kim Burt and Millie Black 2nd, group. Talon Stringham earned 3rd in historical papers, and Suzanne Davis and Lynette Jones earned 3rd in media, however, only 1st and 2nd places go on to competition. Judge Jessie McDonald commented about the 1st place media slide show: It was a fascinasting presen- tation, with an original introduction. It held our interest right up to the final slide." Other SJHS students who entered were Bryan Lyman, Ben Carroll and Patricia Carroll with a computerized media presentation, Superior rating. Historical papers which also earned Superior rat- ings were Cassie Bradford, Cory Black, Natalie Olsen, and Chris Woodard. Ex3 cellent ratings percent 75-8- included Cari Spillman, non. Kari VerGood ratings went to Wilcox. English teacher, Janet Wilcox, who worked with the students, stated, I feel all the entries going to State will be very competitive though some of them will need some additional work fine tuning their presenta- tions. Fortunately, weve had over a month to upgrade. San Juan High was the only high school in the district to compete; however, Grand county had entries in all three divisions. The Region Fair was held at Whitehorse High School in March. Virginia Palmer and Gwen Spotted Elk took 1st in media with "Shadows on the Walls." r Do you know someone who works diligently but without fanfare to improve Utah's quality of life? Someone, young or old, who invests their personal time and energy to enhance individual lives, and through them, entire communities? The Days Of '47 will salute the efforts of these "Utah Quiet Pioneers." Five individuals from across the state will be acknowledged as Utah Quiet Pioneers for their positive impact through acts of service. To be eligible, individuals must be nominated no later than Friday, April 30, 1993. Those selected as this year's Utah Quiet Pioneers will be notified by May 15th. Suzanne Davis were 3rd for "Singing Soldiers," video. These quiet heroes, who exemplify values and traditions consistent with the pioneer spirit, will be the Days of 47 parade and rodeo, and recognized at the July 4th Stadium of Fire, as special guests at will be featured in spots on KSL Television.
