With primary focus on the Rocky Mountain region, the documentary considers the roots of a failing health care system in the nations most isolated communities. At times an intensely personal portrait, the program documentary on rural health care to be hour-lon- g shown on KUED, Utahs public television channel. Called Frontier Code Blue, the program looks at health care in the Intermountain West. There is no economic justification for having a clinic on Navajo Mountain, there is only the need, the doctor says. Verdoia traveled to seven western states over a period researching the documentary. While he focuses on isolated rural communities of the Mountain West, the largely ignored crisis he uncovers afsix-mon- th fects small communities throughout America. Plans must be submitted to federal offices by July 1, 1992 and work is to be completed in 1993. A list of requirements to accommodate handicapped employees and handicapped patrons includes an elevator in the court house, spe- cialized bathroom facilities, drinking fountains, hand rails, ramps, relo- cated door knobs, lowered and signs. Commissioners authorized telephones, $3,000 for county maintenance crews to begin the less complicated installations. An architect will be hired to plan and supervise extensive building modifi- cations.
