The Pirates were enjoying a 16 point lead at half time, mostly behind John Hughes, who was playing the middle and took advantage of the defense by the Raiders, as he racked up 27 points. The Raiders tried two men to stop Hughes, but to no avail. Hutch Johnson picked up three quick fouls and Alan Sharp picked up two. Adding to the frustration was the cold shooting by the starters.
