Benedict Max Jenson and Nolan Hansen from Utah Division of State Parks discussed plans for the expansion of Edge of the Cedars State Parks Museum at a public meeting in Blanding March 13. Hansen said ex- pansion and remodeling of the museum may begin in the fall or as early as spring. Completion of the entire project is estimated to take place in one year. Construction will begin with a maintenance building northwest of the muThe maintenance seum. building will be used to store artifacts and collections while the museum is being expanded. The expansion of the museum will include another exhibit hall, staff researchers office, offices, field lab, work area, open storage area, cataloged collections room, archive, and sensitive collections room. A total of 7,190 square feet will be added to the museum. The cost of remodeling and expanding Edge of the Cedars, including the maintenance building, is $1,675,000. At present, there are no funds to hire additional staff. Dale Davidson of the Bureau of Land Management said the BLM and State Parks are still negotiating a fee for storing and maintaining BLM artifacts at the Davidson said, museum. BLM has to bear a fair share of the curation costs and is comfortable with the idea of paying for this service.
