Dinah stands and weighs approximately 117 pounds. y In the state Whitehorse senior 1 A Runner of the Year -- by Leo Platero Dinah Talker, senior at tures, romance, and sport novels. She likes to keep up Whitehorse High, is the 1989 Runner of the Year for Utah high schools. The honor came after she led the Raider team to their second state championin as many years. The ship team scored 53 points, 23 more than the second place finisher, Richfield. Dinah took second place with a time of 20.00, just behind Nicolette Mose of San 5-fe- 1-- A et cross-countr- race, Dinah relates, Our coaches emphasized the position in which we should be at mark. Coach Lusk the half-wa-y wanted me to stay up front and finish second. As I ran, I kept cross-countr- y finishing thinking about half-wa- to the second. Then finish, I found myself in fifth place, so I passed four girls from Park City and then I ran in the right position. Dinah is a hard worker, says Coach Lusk. She did a lot of training on her own. She set a personal goal for state and she accomplished it. y Juan High. a lot of credit for helping me and training me. I ran six times a week. It was hard work and I learned to I give my dad discipline myself, says Dinah. My dad would tell me Run hard, stride it out, and above all keep your mind on running. Hard work also goes into her studies. She has been a member of the National Honor Society since her freshman Names and faces Marine Pvt. Benjamin S. Johnson , son of Joe and Betty R. Johnson of Mexican Hat, has completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. During the training was Johnson cycle, taught the basics of battlefield survival. He participated in an active physical conditioning program and gained proficiency in a 13-we- ek variety of military skills including first aid, rifle marksmanship and close order drill. Micah is the first boy from Monticello High School ever to A-2- A place first in state cross country. Micah has done well this season. He took first in six of the teams nine races, and placed in the top 10 in all nine. Besides running, Micah enjoys wrestling and biking. He is a varsity wrestler and a star trackman. Last year Micah placed well in other state meets: second in wrestling and fourth in the 1600 meter and She hopes to attract the attention of colleges in Utah and Arizona and win cross-countr- y. Coach Mark Hugentobler said, He has really come on strong this year. He has matured as a runner and as a person. He is extremely dedicated and consistent. Winning state as a junior is quite an accomplishment. Micah, age 17, is a son of Mark and Linda Ewart. He maintains a 3.0 grade point average, and participates in year round sports. Brandon made three touchdowns and had three interceptions in the game with Milford. Brandon is a junior at Monticello High School. He is a son of Tanya Goodwine.
