To qualify for the state meet, students must receive an ex- 1 2 for San Juan High School students will be attending the program in Washington, D.C. the week of April 24, where they will be learning about the basic functions of government. The following students will be attending: Janell Guymon, Tracy Black, Shelley Singer, Kim Harris, LeeAnn Lovell, Laura Shumway, Deniane Gutke, Tyler Bayles, Jeff Eberhard, Elizabeth Austin, Doriene Barfuss and Kammy Pugh. Dan Barfuss will go as their advisor. Twelve Juan High who competed qualified for state, but only three from each category may actually compete at state. Pantomimes led the way for San Juan at region. Misty Shearer and Worthy Glover took first with a mime about old people on a park bench. Corby Bayles and Dennis Jones took second with a piece about a murder in a sand trap. Joseph Stubbs and Josh Hall took third with a mime about smoking in the barnyard. Humorous readings also for San Juan. Jenny Tate took first with The Cat Came Back. Orrin Harris placed second with Frontier Doctor. Melissa Austin also qualified for state.
